Gone but not forgotten - North Koreans flock to statues and portraits of their nation's founding family to pay their respects on New Year's Day.
The reclusive state's founder Kim Il-Sung and late 'dear leader' Kim Jong-il were both honoured with hundreds offering flowers and elaborate bouquets.
North Korea announced the death of leader Kim Jong-il on December 19, saying he had passed away from a sudden heart attack on a train two days earlier.
A state funeral was held for him on December 28, followed by a massive memorial service a day later.
The communist state has now called on its people to rally behind Kim's son and annointed successor Kin Jong-un who was named 'supreme leader' and 'supreme army commander' after his father's funeral.
