Neither Alex Smith or the San Francisco 49ers got what they really wanted this offseason. Smith wanted a chance to go somewhere he could be respected as a number-one quarterback. The Niners wanted Peyton Manning. The two parties should come together on an agreement because, let's face it, whether it's the emergence of Vernon Davis and MIchael Crabtree or coach Jim Harbaugh, 2011 wasn't a bad year in the Bay Area.
