A major earthquake has hit southwest Mexico.
The 7.6 magnitude tremor struck east of Ometepec, near the Pacific Coast resort of Acapulco.
Lasting several minutes, it shook buildings some 400 kilometres away in Mexico City, sending office workers rushing out onto the streets. Mobile phone networks have been affected and traffic was snarled in the capital.
