Reducing the deficit and restoring growth were the key messages from the Queen's speech.
Addressing MPs and peers, the Queen said measures would be taken to improve the regulation of banks and reforms to the Enterprise Bill to make life easier for businesses. Measures proposed by the Independent Commission on Banking will be put in place to prevent further crippling bank bailouts like those seen in 2008.
The Monarch also spoke of reforming both state and public service pensions to keep pace with people living longer.
