The Bible of the Beat Generation, "On the Road", premiered at Cannes on Wednesday.
The film version from Brazilian director Walter Salles, featuring Sam Riley and Kirsten Dunst, strives to capture the energy and drug-fuelled stream of consciousness of the original book.
SOUNDBITE: Walter Salles, director, saying (English):
"It's about the loss of innocence, it's about the search for that last frontier they'll never find."
Kristen Stewart of "Twilight" fame talked about the tough love scenes for her role as the teenage Marylou in the film.
SOUNDBITE: Kristen Stewart, actor, saying (English):
"I love pushing, I love scaring myself. To watch genuine experience on screen is so much for interesting than seeing - You can see the tape holding up the pasties. I wanted to do it. The reason I want to do the job is because you read something, you're provoked on some level and it's just taking that further and I always want to get as close to the experience as I possibly can"
The movie will have its world premiere later with the stars and Salles set to hit the red carpet.
