Roots of Kyrgyz uprising persist

Peace has returned to the streets of Bishkek, the capital of Kyrgyzstan, five days after violent anti-government protests prompted the country's president to flee.

But many Kyrgyz residents say the underlying causes that fuelled the uprising are still present, including a recent hike in the cost of electricity and water.

The interim government has pledged to bring the prices down and work to improve peoples lives.

But as Al Jazeera's Roza Ibragimova reports from Bishkek, many residents say they want to see the proof sooner rather than later.
