A group of political parties in Mali has come out strongly against the takeover by rebel soldiers.

Three days after announcing they had deposed president Amadou Toumane Toure - the leader of the military junta will not confirm the former head of state's whereabouts.

The African Union plans to send a delegation to the country to attempt to mediate.
