00:31On today's Toy Spot, we're going to be having a look at McFarlane Movie Maniacs Series 5, Wishmaster.
00:38This is the Dijin from Wishmaster, or Jinn, if you'd like to...
00:43You can call it that as well.
00:45If we have a look at the packaging, not a poster on the side of the packaging, however,
00:50but an actual picture of the figure.
00:53I guess maybe the poster wasn't as interesting enough.
00:56Although, I guess, really, Movie Maniacs Series 5, I think they did more of the actual figure
01:04pictures on the side rather than the poster.
01:07I've got the Dijin at the bottom there.
01:10On the back of the packaging, as you can see, there's other figures in the wave.
01:14There's the Lord of Darkness, there's Jason Voorhees from Jason X, or Uber Jason.
01:20Oh, such a sweet-looking Jason.
01:23It's painful that the movie sucked so bad, but Uber Jason, to this day, is still one of
01:29the coolest-looking Jasons.
01:31There's Sarah Connor, there's the endoskeleton from T2, and then there's the Tooth Fairy.
01:37This is the initial Tooth Fairy without the mouth open.
01:41I have the Tooth Fairy with the mouth open, so I probably would like to go back and pick
01:48that one up, but there you have packaging.
01:51Not really much to say, but what we'll do is we'll get this figure opened up, and we
01:56will get a closer look at the figure, so stay tuned.
01:59Now, it's a shame that this series got so watered down.
02:02The initial entry of the Wishmaster series, Wishmaster 1, came into the theater, directed
02:10by Wes Craven.
02:11Great movie, it was well-conceived, it was a good, thought-out movie, and unfortunately,
02:18as the series progressed, it got bad, worse, and then it got even worse than that.
02:25I think by, I think it was only about four Wishmaster movies, but by the fourth Wishmaster, it had
02:32no relevance.
02:33It made no sense, because for those who have seen or haven't seen the first Wishmaster, it's
02:39a good movie to watch.
02:41I mean, it's about this genie, or djinn, that can grant wishes, and he basically can grant
02:50wishes to anyone, but the one that finds this very, very, very small, for those who can find
03:00this jewel, this, I guess, ruby kind of thing, and unlock and unleash the djinn, they have
03:08three wishes, and by the third wish, the catch is, by the third wish, the djinn can open up
03:15a, I guess, a portal, or open up the dimension to where all the other djinns are, and they
03:21can basically come into our world.
03:23Um, but, but he can also grant wishes to other people as well, um, but the, the, there's always
03:30a catch, and I, I thought Wishmaster 1 did it brilliantly.
03:34They, like, even Wishmaster, even the djinn says himself, like, I can't do anything unless
03:40you wish it.
03:41So, like, for example, there's a scene where he's walking up to, surprisingly, Kane Hodder,
03:47who played Jason, uh, he plays, I guess, a security guard, and the djinn is in human form
03:53by this point, and he says, you know, I, I want, I think he says, I want to see so
03:58-and-so,
03:59and Kane Hodder, the security guard, says, well, you'll have to go through me, or something
04:04like that, and the djinn can't do anything unless somebody wishes it, so as, as the djinn
04:11is walking away, Kane Hodder, or the security guard, says, yeah, I'd like to see you do that,
04:16or, or, that I'd like to see, or something like that, and that, that was a wish, so the
04:22djinn basically turns around and says, as you wish, and he turns Kane Hodder into, like,
04:28a sheet of glass, and the, and the djinn walks through him, and, and he shatters into all
04:33these pieces.
04:35That is neat.
04:36I thought, I thought that's really a cool idea, like, the djinn can't do anything unless you
04:41wish it of him.
04:43So, I mean, he can't just kill you unless you ask for it.
04:45Um, now, where the catch is, though, I mean, where the other sequels didn't do that, the
04:51other sequels, somebody would just get killed for this, for dumb reasons.
04:57I think one guy, was it Wishmaster 2 or Wishmaster 3, one guy wishes for, I think, two hot women,
05:05and these topless women come into the, you know, to the scene, and they start making love
05:12to the guy, and then all of a sudden, they start ripping him apart.
05:16Like, they, I think they start biting off pieces of him, and it makes no sense, because
05:21he didn't wish that.
05:22I mean, the, the, the idea is there, there has to be a little catch with how you say, how
05:26you say your wish, and, like, the later movies, I think, missed that point.
05:30I mean, they got him a couple of times, but overall, I think your strongest movie, and
05:35the best movie, is still the first one.
05:37And, uh, I, I haven't even talked about the figure yet.
05:41Um, the figure itself is very nice.
05:44Really, really nice looking figure.
05:46A nice detailing on the face, on the hair, he's got the little tendons kind of thing.
05:53And, as you can see, he's, he's got, like, a, a, an armor kind of thing, as you can see
05:58there.
06:00And, uh, nice cape, he's got nice, like, a dirty, burgundy kind of color.
06:07And the bone, and everything else.
06:10I mean, they put a lot of detail in, they certainly didn't skimp on detailing on this
06:14guy.
06:15And, uh, it, it's a bit of a shame that, of all the figures in this wave, the Tooth Fairy,
06:21was a real peg warmer, but I think this guy took the cake.
06:25This guy was the, was the one that just was not selling.
06:28I mean, I, I remember going to Toys R Us a couple of months after this set came out, and
06:34every figure was gone.
06:35I think even the Tooth Fairy was gone.
06:36And poor Jin here was the last figure.
06:39And they had about three or four of them, and they couldn't even give these away.
06:43Which, uh, is a shame, because, again, if you've seen the, the Wishmaster movie, um, this,
06:49this figure is decent.
06:51I mean, it's a really neat, neat looking figure.
06:53Um, in his artic, in the way of his articulation, he has articulation in the head.
06:59Um, no ball joint, it's just a, it's just a swivel.
07:02Um, he has a, a pin and socket joint in his shoulders.
07:07Um, he has a swivel in his elbow.
07:12He has a swivel in his hand.
07:16Um, nothing, well, it looks like there's a little articulation in his waist.
07:23And articulation in the leg, or in the, uh, the shin area, I guess, where his boot starts.
07:30And then there's also articulation in his foot.
07:34There is a, is there, is there articulation?
07:38You know what, there is an articulation.
07:40I was wrong.
07:42Um, but really nice detailing.
07:44I mean, it's, it's definitely a really solid figure.
07:47There is also articulation in the, uh, the thigh there.
07:50But, definitely a good solid figure.
07:52I mean, it's, uh, it's a shame, again, that this figure got so overlooked.
07:56Because I would say, you know, it, it has, it has a real charm to it.
08:01Um, you'll also notice that there's a bit of a sunken groove in his hand area.
08:06Um, the idea is you can turn his hand around like so.
08:11And you can take the ruby, or the jewel that contained the djinn.
08:17You can actually put it in his hand.
08:20Um, not well, unfortunately.
08:22Kind of have to tip his hand up.
08:26And you can have it like that.
08:29Now, unfortunately, for how small this jewel is, to buy this guy loose, you probably will not get this jewel.
08:37I mean, that's probably the first thing somebody will lose as soon as you open up this package.
08:41In fact, I probably will lose this on the way, uh, putting it back in the package.
08:47But, definitely a complete djinn needs to have this jewel.
08:51And when I eventually put him on display, I don't know if I might glue this in, or, you know,
08:55just put a bit of an adhesive so I can take it off.
08:58But, at least it's not going to go anywhere.
09:00Because it definitely will be lost, that's for sure.
09:03Um, he also does come with a display stand with the Wishmaster poster.
09:09Be careful what you wish for.
09:11As you can see, he's got the same jewel in the poster there.
09:15Good poster.
09:18But, overall, definitely worth picking up.
09:20I mean, it's definitely worth giving a second chance for.
09:23And, if you haven't seen Wishmaster, um, give, give that a chance as well.
09:28Because that's a great movie.
09:30Um, it, again, it's a shame that the sequels kind of went, went down the crapper.
09:35But, the first one, the first one still holds up well to this day.
09:40But, there you have a toy spot on Movie Maniacs Series 5.
09:46And, that was the djinn.
09:47The djinn from Wishmaster.
