NIKE SURFING introduces its new grassroots events platform, "The
Block Series", a tour comprised of five events across Northern Spain and South
West France, set to kick-off Saturday, June 9, in Euskadi and running through to
June 24.
Specially created for the rising generation of amateur surfers aged 9 to 20, "The
Block Series" provides a participative, locally anchored-and-driven contest
format in association with the key surf clubs in Sopelana (Euskadi), Hossegor
(France), Zarautz (Euskadi), Biarritz (France) and Somo (Cantabria).
Managed by the selected surf clubs, each one-day event stop of "The Block
Series" will witness and showcase progressive surfing from a pool of 48 locally preselected
surfers, spread between three categories (SuperGroms, Groms &
Juniors).
Highlighting the next generation of surfers across some of Europe's most
renowned beaches, "The Block Series" will allow young surfers to unleash their
most progressive surfing and compete in a non-elimination 'Round Robin' format,
to eventually be crowned their local "Block Series" Champion.
Each series stop winner, plus three athletes at each of the six locations and six
wildcard invitees will qualify for the Block Series Final. The location and further
information for this stop will be disclosed shortly.
Driven by surf clubs and aiming to highlight key beaches and the local surf
community for the new generation of progressive surfers, "The Block Series" is set
to kick-off and let the surfing do the talking!
