00:00This is a toy spot on the Marvel Legends Spider-Man movie figures from the Build-A-Figure Sandman series.
00:07Today we're looking at Sandman.
00:23Now, Sandman, this is the first time Sandman was released as a movie figure.
00:27He was released in the first wave, so I mean, for any confusion out there, he was released
00:34in the initial wave as well, but it was when the figures were in the smaller scale.
00:39I was very close to actually picking up that Sandman figure because I thought, much like
00:44a lot of other collectors out there, I really thought that this was the direction that they
00:49were going to go, that some executive said to themselves, hey, you know, why stick with
00:55the regular size that everybody is known to collect, why don't we completely throw the
01:00line on its, let's just throw it on its side and let's do something different, let's actually
01:07drop the size by about an inch or so.
01:09So for that reason, I was going to pick up Sandman initially, but for one reason or another
01:14I held back, and luckily, luckily I did because then they eventually gave us the Marvel Legends
01:22Sandman series Build-A-Figure collection.
01:25So far it's been really more missed than hit, but we'll see if maybe the Sandman here can
01:32redeem itself and hopefully redeem the line somewhat.
01:35As you can see down the side, we've got pictures of Sandman from the movie.
01:41They've actually, they picked a great guy for Sandman.
01:45It's a shame that the Spider-Man 3 was so muddled with storylines, the need to introduce as many
01:52different aspects and characters into the movie that the movie got so convoluted.
01:57Had they really just stuck with Sandman, I think, for part three, the movie would have
02:02been fine.
02:04But, you know, again, I don't make decisions in Hollywood, you know, I'm just, I'm just
02:10a, a lone toy reviewer.
02:15At any rate, on the back of the box, back of the package, the other figures in this wave,
02:20Mary Jane, we've got New Goblin, Doc Ock, Green Goblin, Spider-Man, Sandman, Black-Suited
02:26Spider-Man, and finally, Venom.
02:29Collect all eight figures, which is really one of my other issues, too.
02:35The fact that this figure itself could have easily been built with five, maybe six figures
02:41if you want to do the head separate.
02:43But instead, they put four pieces to make up legs.
02:48I think that's dumb.
02:50I said it.
02:51The read-up, oh, it's got to get better.
02:54The read-up says, Flint Marco grew up rough, abandoned by his father, ignored by his mother.
02:58He stole and cheated his way through school.
03:00After school, he ended up in prison for a few years.
03:03But after a life out of the world, he really, that really didn't offer him much until the
03:07birth of his daughter.
03:08The first time he held the little girl in his arms, he swore he'd do better, uh, better
03:13by her than his parents had by him.
03:17I really don't like how they did these read-ups.
03:19Since then, though nothing's gone right, he didn't mean to hurt anyone.
03:22And he sure didn't mean to get turned into a walking pile of sand.
03:26But if life has taught him one thing, it's that the past is the past.
03:31What's happening right now is important.
03:33And right now, Spider-Man is in between him and being with his wife and daughter.
03:39Wow.
03:40Real name, Flint Marco, occupation, criminal, powers, super strength, density, alteration, and
03:46sandblast.
03:49Just, what, does the wrong thing, for the right reason.
03:54Let me just pan, you know what, I'm going to stop this video here.
03:58I'm going to stop, I just want to point this out here.
04:01And I'm going to see, if I pan in there, are you guys going to see, are you guys seeing
04:04this?
04:06His biography.
04:08You know, instead of name, you know, powers, makes sense.
04:12Height, you can throw that in as well.
04:14Well, they've actually got, does the right thing.
04:19Almost like that is a bio-heading.
04:22Like it's asking you a question.
04:24What's his hometown?
04:25Queens, New York.
04:27Relatives?
04:28Daughter.
04:29Left off his wife, but, um, but then they've got, does the wrong thing.
04:35Are you asking us a question, or are you telling us?
04:38Does the right thing?
04:40Uh, yes.
04:41No, they put, for the right reason.
04:46I think that best illustrates this line in a nutshell.
04:52What a mess.
04:54What a mess.
04:55But, that's packaging on Sandman.
04:58This, this figure, I hope, redeems this line.
05:02Because, they've done a poor job so far.
05:04What we're going to do is, we're going to open this package up, and we will get a better
05:08look at Sandman.
05:09So, stay tuned, guys.

05:13Also, for the record, I just want to point out, too, in the movie, Sandman, they should
05:18have just had him a full-blown villain, start to finish, you know?
05:23And, and really, if anything, Spider-Man 4, you could have had Sandman be, you know, reformed
05:30then.
05:31But, at no point did you ever feel, I, I just didn't like the fact that they made him a
05:36good guy by the end of the movie.
05:39It just, it had no payoff to it whatsoever, aside from the fact that they rushed through
05:43Venom also, but.
05:45Um, yeah, well, before we actually look at the Sandman figure, it's checklist time, guys.
05:52Checklist.
05:53Where are we going with this today?
05:56Well, it doesn't look like it's any more clear as to what piece this is.
06:01Uh, this is actually the other foot.
06:04If we bring in the first foot, one thing I don't like, either, is the fact that these
06:09are, these pieces are actually supposed to connect.
06:11As you can see, they do line up with one another.
06:14But, they don't actually peg together.
06:17They're just, they just sit.
06:20They just sit.
06:21That's all they do.
06:23Um, however, if you have the leg, uh, from what, the black costume Spider-Man, you can
06:33actually take the leg and line it up with the foot.
06:42And, uh, it doesn't look much, it just looks like a piece of rock.
06:49Yeah.
06:50Um, so that's what we got for Sandman so far, of course, and that other leg, or that other
06:55foot, but doesn't really touch together.
06:57He, hopefully, will get more, I don't know, the figure probably will just get worse the
07:03more we build of him.
07:04But, we'll just move that aside, and let's look again here at Flint Marco Sandman.
07:13I do, I will say that the face does look a lot like the actor, and for the life of
07:20man,
07:20I can't remember the name of the actor right now.
07:25Um, this also seems to be a wave where it's all over the place with the way they've decided
07:30to put articulation on these figures.
07:33Uh, actually, you know what, we'll do this right now.
07:36The articulation, he has a ball-jointed head, which he can only really move back and forth.
07:42It doesn't look like he can move it up and down or anything.
07:44Um, he has a ball-jointed shoulder, uh, you can rotate the bicep, um, the elbow, you can
07:53bend at two points, the hand, the mace here, you can rotate also.
08:02Uh, same thing with the other hand, you can also rotate that too.
08:06Um, he has this mid-torso joint that you can move.
08:12Thank goodness he doesn't have a gimmick.
08:14That would have only made this figure that much crappier.
08:17Um, but the leg can bend in and out.
08:20Um, it doesn't want to move, I mean, you can turn it, but it doesn't want to move in and
08:28out.
08:29Uh, the knees bend at two points.
08:32You can also rotate the foot, and you can also bend the foot.
08:37But again, it's like, depending on what figure you buy,
08:40it's going to have different articulation than the previous figure.
08:44This line breaks all concepts of what a figure line should be.
08:51Um, just to give you guys a scale comparison too.
08:54If anything, at least he's in scale with the original red costume Spider-Man.
08:59As crappy as this Spider-Man is, at least it's the same scale.
09:03Um, if we bring in the black costume Spider-Man.
09:09All right, he is a little bit shorter.
09:11That's not so bad.
09:13It's certainly not as big of a stark contrast than the black costume Spider-Man
09:18and the original costume Spider-Man.
09:21Uh, we'll move him out of the way.
09:23It's a shame, really, that this Sandman didn't have alternate hands.
09:28I mean, really, uh, I'm seeing so far that they really skimped on this toy line.
09:35Uh, they, they could have done so much more than really what they did.
09:39The build-a-figure so far seems like just a mess.
09:44Um, but they could have given him alternate hands.
09:47You know, these could have come off.
09:49You could have given him different hands.
09:50You could have given him, you know, a base that you could have clunk, you know,
09:54snapped the figure into and he would have had the sand base.
09:57You could have done a different thing.
09:58You could have given us a variant where he was all sand.
10:03But it just seems like they, they went out of their way
10:06and they just didn't do anything for this line.
10:08It's like they, it's kind of like the, the child that you want to forget.
10:13Like that, the child is just completely, you know,
10:17ugh.
10:19I don't even know where I'm going with this.
10:20It's the, you see how, you see how this line has
10:28just, I don't, I have nothing to say.
10:30I have nothing to say.
10:31I will say though, at least the Sandman is, is the nicest so far of the three figures.
10:38And it's nice to finally get a movie version of Sandman
10:42and not in the smaller scale.
10:46So for that, at least it's something.
10:48Um, this Sandman, I'm going to give a six to.
10:51It could have been better, but it could have also been so much worse.

11:02Today's toy spot, we were looking at the Spider-Man movie Marvel Legends line,
11:07the Build a Sandman line.
11:09And today we were looking at Sandman himself.
11:15I'm sure there's a lot worse figures than this guy.
