00:05Build-A-Figure Sandman line, it's all over the place,
00:11today's Toy Spot we're going to be looking at the black-suited Spider-Man.
00:28Now, I didn't fare well with my initial review, the very first review of this line,
00:32when I did the red and blue costume Spider-Man.
00:36I'm hoping this figure is going to be a little bit nicer.
00:38As you can see, it's the black costume Spider-Man.
00:42Nice pictures of the Spider-Man in black costume there.
00:49Now, how many people, just on a side note here,
00:52how many people actually like Spider-Man in this outfit?
00:56Anybody?
00:58Well, there's one, two, okay, not very many.
01:02I can tell you this guy didn't like the costume one bit.
01:07Following the comics, following Spider-Man,
01:09I really wish they had just initially given him a black,
01:15almost like a tar,
01:16given him almost like a tar sheen over top of his existing costume.
01:20I didn't like the fact that he had all this silver webbing.
01:23It basically just looked like the black,
01:27the standard Spider-Man costume,
01:29had the movie been shot in black and white.
01:32That's basically what the costume looked like to me,
01:34and I did not like it.
01:36Collect all eight figures to build Sandman.
01:39Down below.
01:40On the back of the package,
01:42the other figures in this wave,
01:44we've got Mary Jane,
01:44we've got New Goblin,
01:46Doc Ock,
01:47Green Goblin,
01:48we've got,
01:49ugh,
01:49Spider-Man,
01:50we've got Sandman,
01:51black-suited Spider-Man,
01:53and Venom.
01:54The read-up,
01:56hoping it's better than the last one.
01:58Read-up says,
01:59his mind infected by the thoughts of an alien symbiote,
02:02and his strength enhanced by the creature that clings to his skin.
02:05Spider-Man feels an uncharacteristic rage taken over him.
02:10His best friend is trying to kill him,
02:11his girlfriend is unimpressed with his strange new powers,
02:15and his Uncle Ben's real killer has shown his face.
02:18The world is out to get him.
02:20All you have to see,
02:21oh wait,
02:22all you have to do is see that,
02:25is look on the front page of the Bugle.
02:28I don't know why I screwed that up.
02:30Well,
02:31if the world wants to think of him as a dangerous vigilante,
02:33then that's what they'll get,
02:34and Sandman is going to be the first to get a personal taste.
02:39The read-up certainly hasn't gotten any better.
02:41New costume,
02:42enhanced by alien life form.
02:45Vehicle,
02:47webs,
02:48I guess instead of a car,
02:50desperate to protect Aunt May and Mary Jane.
02:54Most dangerous enemy,
02:55New Goblin,
02:56really wants,
02:58I'm not making this up guys,
02:59it says,

03:00to severely beat Sandman.
03:03New costume increases,
03:04his strength.
03:08Wow.
03:10Why is it that a read-up and bio here,
03:15it should stay the same.
03:18It should say real name of everything else.
03:20It shouldn't change with every single character.
03:24The original costume of Spider-Man didn't say,
03:26really wants,
03:27and most dangerous enemy.
03:30Maybe with the Mary Jane,
03:32it's going to say,
03:34personal hobbies,
03:35and turn-ons.
03:37New Goblin might say,
03:39favorite color.
03:41Maybe Green Goblin says,
03:43favorite book to read.
03:47Venom,
03:48most likely to.
03:52I really am hating on this line.
03:54It's a shame,
03:55because I've only,
03:56this is only the second figure.
03:58I'm going to be good.
03:59I'm going to behave myself.

04:01we'll open up this package,
04:02and we will have a better look at,
04:04black costume,
04:05black suited,
04:06Spider-Man.

04:09for what it's worth,
04:10he's out of his package.
04:13These figures aren't getting any bit better,
04:14guys.
04:16We'll get it out of the way first.
04:17He has a gimmick,
04:19which is not surprising,
04:21because it seems a lot of gimmicks,
04:23are linked,
04:24usually,
04:25to black,
04:26costumed,
04:27Spider-Man figures.
04:28And it's usually,
04:29always the same gimmick.
04:31He's got a hole in his arm,
04:33or the hole in his hand.
04:34He can actually take this webbing.
04:37And,
04:38it's not a missile,
04:38or anything like that.
04:39That's one good thing,
04:41at least.
04:42But,
04:45not to say it's good,
04:46though.
04:46I mean,
04:46it's,
04:47it's a step up.
04:48How's that?
04:49Basically,
04:49you plug it into his hand.
04:53Taking a little bit of force,
04:54actually,
04:54you get this in there.
04:58It's basically,
04:59he basically does that.
05:00I'm not,
05:01I'm not going to waste a lot of time on it,
05:02because,
05:03I'm not even going to have him on display,
05:05with this.
05:07I mean,
05:07it's a nice web,
05:09but,
05:10meh.
05:13Checklist time,

05:15You guys are even still following this.
05:17The checklist,
05:18for Spider-Man,
05:19black suited Spider-Man,
05:21is this.
05:25It's supposedly,
05:28wait for it,

05:30yeah.
05:31I had to just look at it myself.
05:33It's apparently the left leg.
05:36That is a leg,
05:37I know,
05:38I don't know where this is going.
05:40Just to kind of give you guys a comparison,
05:44the other Spider-Man came with this.
05:46And you see,
05:47black costume is not even going to,
05:48he's checked out,
05:49he's left.
05:51Spider-Man has the right leg,
05:54right foot,
05:55I should say,
05:57black suited Spider-Man,
05:59left leg.
06:00It couldn't even give you one leg,
06:02eh?
06:02You have to kind of build them.
06:04But that,
06:05it,
06:06basically,
06:06your Sandman would look like this,
06:08so far.
06:12Yeah.
06:13So,
06:14nope,
06:15not much in the way of checklist,
06:16guys.
06:17And,
06:17uh,
06:17really,
06:19this,
06:19this is turning out to be a horrible build-a-figure.
06:22But we're going to move it aside,
06:23and let's have a look here at,
06:26the black suited Spider-Man.
06:30I'll tell you one thing I don't like,
06:31is the head on this guy.
06:33Um,
06:35I'm really curious to know,
06:36where they got the body,
06:38from this figure.
06:40I don't know if it's maybe a step,
06:42like maybe they've just taken the smaller,
06:45for anybody who remembers Spider-Man 3 figures,
06:47when they first came out,
06:49they weren't actually,
06:51normal,
06:52six inch size figures,
06:53they were smaller.
06:55Uh,
06:55they were,
06:56um,
06:57what I want to say,
06:58like five inches.
06:59Maybe about four or five inches.
07:03And,
07:03uh,
07:04a lot of people hated,
07:06with a passion,
07:08they hated the fact that they,
07:09they released the figures in such a small line,
07:11because they didn't go,
07:12at all with the,
07:14the other Spider-Man figures,
07:16that you picked up from the previous two movies.
07:18Um,
07:19actually,
07:19in fact,
07:19the one good thing,
07:20and this might be the only saving grace,
07:22that this figure does have,
07:23is the fact that he comes with this,
07:24a nice little,
07:25catalogue,
07:27uh,
07:27Spider-Man catalogue,
07:28with a checklist on the back here,
07:30and inside,
07:33shows all the different figures,
07:35in the waves.
07:37So,
07:38the initial first wave of figures,
07:41um,
07:44the initial first wave of figures,
07:45these were actually the smaller scale figures,
07:49and,
07:49uh,
07:50not well received at all.
07:52Um,
07:53they expanded the line,
07:54to include,
07:55uh,
07:56other figures from the,
07:57Spider-Man comics,
07:59uh,
08:00not really ones that actually were in the movie,
08:02for example,
08:03Vulture,
08:04we got Black Cat,
08:05Mysterio,
08:06weird looking Mysterio,
08:08we got Scorpion,
08:09Rhino,
08:12I'm almost inclined just to do the review on this catalogue instead,
08:16because it seems cooler.
08:18The other things in this wave.
08:22Some plush toys.
08:25The Venom actually looks kind of neat.
08:27Uh,
08:28but it does come with a catalogue.
08:29Let's move that out of the way.
08:30But I don't know where they got this figure from,
08:33this mold.
08:34Because it doesn't seem,
08:36and actually,
08:36just for the sake of,
08:37uh,
08:37comparison,
08:38I'll move him over.
08:39I'll bring in the initial Spider-Man,
08:44whom,
08:45I,
08:46I've warmed up to a little bit more than when I did the review of him.
08:50I don't loathe him as much as I did before,
08:52but he is definitely not a good figure.
08:54As you can see,
08:55though,
08:57what?
08:58Yeah,
08:59I know.
09:00There is a,
09:01there is a substantial difference in size between the black-suited Spider-Man,
09:07and the original Spider-Man.
09:11Why?
09:12Could they not have taken the original costume Spider-Man?
09:17Maybe not this figure,
09:18because it's got that horrible joint here,
09:20but,
09:20could they not have taken this Spider-Man,
09:22and merely changed the color of him?
09:28No,
09:28instead,
09:29we actually get a smaller Spider-Man.
09:32Smaller head,
09:33too.
09:33Everything on him is smaller.
09:36What?
09:38Yeah,
09:38I know.
09:39I know.
09:40I'm thinking the same thing,
09:41guys.
09:42Why?
09:44But yes,
09:45big difference in size.
09:47I guess Spider-Man shrinks when he gets the costume on him.
09:53It's really a shame,
09:54too,
09:54because the,
09:57I actually like this body design a lot more.
10:00It's a little sleeker.
10:02I mean,
10:02certainly,
10:02it's probably not more accurate to the movies.
10:04I don't also like the fact that his head points down.
10:08You see that?
10:11Oh,
10:12this line,
10:13I think,
10:13is just going to,
10:14this line is going to be the end of me,
10:15I think.
10:19He also doesn't have as much articulation as the previous Spider-Man figure,
10:23either.
10:24He has the ball-jointed head,
10:26which you can look down,
10:30but it can't go any higher than that.
10:33He has a ball-jointed shoulder.
10:36He can bend in and out.
10:38But they've done this weird thing here,
10:40where,
10:41you guys can see it,
10:42the webbing actually stops,
10:44just shy of the top of his torso.
10:48And so,
10:48therefore,
10:49you can only move his arm out this much,
10:52and it won't go any further.
10:54Certainly,
10:54you can move the arm back and forth.
10:56The forearm moves.
10:58You can also bend at the elbow,
10:59and you can rotate at the forearm.
11:05The other arm,
11:06same thing.
11:08And it seems strange.
11:10Look at this.
11:11You can move the arm out only so much on the one arm,
11:14the other arm's got that same webbing,
11:18but they've done it so that you can actually bring the arm further out.
11:21You see that?
11:26You can rotate at the bicep,
11:28you can bend at the elbow,
11:29and you can rotate the hand,
11:31and also bend the hand in.
11:33Now,
11:34his fist is closed.
11:37Again,
11:37I don't know why,
11:38they just didn't use the same figure.
11:40He's got a much better mid-torso joint than the previous Spider-Man.
11:48But I just don't know why it's all over the place with this line so far.
11:53There is zero articulation in the waist.
11:56You can bend the legs back and forth in and out.
11:59You can bend the knees two points.
12:03There is zero articulation in the leg.
12:07You can rotate the foot, though,
12:10and you can bend it back and forth.
12:11There is no articulation also in the toe.
12:16A very strange figure.
12:19It just,
12:20it defies all
12:23logical
12:27common sense.
12:28I don't know,
12:29I just,
12:30why they couldn't have just taken the exact same figure
12:33and colored him.
12:34I really,
12:34I just don't know.
12:37I don't know.
12:38I'm going to need a nap after this review.
12:42Um,
12:44yeah,
12:45so really,
12:45what do I give this figure?
12:47Well,
12:49the paint's good.
12:50I'll,
12:50I'll say at least the paint is clean.
12:52It's not sloppy.
12:55But why they picked this figure,
12:57this mold,
12:58I don't know.
12:59I just don't know.
13:01And you can only do so much with the figure.
13:04They've really stripped down the articulation on him.
13:09He is still,
13:11I still think he's nicer,
13:12though,
13:13than the original Spider-Man.
13:14So for that reason,
13:15I'm going to give him a five.
13:19I'm sure I'm being more generous than what I should be.
13:21But I'm going to give Spider-Man in black costume Spider-Man here a five.
