00:00And on today's DVD spot, we're going to be having a look at the Scooby-Doo, Where Are You? The
00:06Complete Series on DVD.
00:27Before I actually talk about this particular set, I just wanted to actually backtrack and talk about actually the series
00:34in general.
00:34So, huge Scooby-Doo fan. You may or may not know that, but a huge Scooby-Doo fan.
00:41I'm going to move this set just quickly out of the way here.
00:46Grew up with Scooby-Doo. For me, I think, I'm trying to remember here, I believe Scooby-Doo was on
00:52at 4.30 weekdays.
00:56I used to come home and watch Scooby-Doo. Monday to Thursday was the Scooby-Doo Where Are You?
01:01And then Friday was always the Celebrity Guests Starring Episodes.
01:07If you're not a Scooby-Doo fan, you probably are not even interested in this video for one thing, but
01:13you probably wouldn't be able to follow that.
01:17If I bring in the DVD series, Scooby-Doo, Where Are You? The Complete First and Second Season.
01:28For anybody who collects cartoons, probably going to be all over the place on this video.
01:35For anybody that collects cartoons, sometimes the hardest part with getting a DVD is the distribution of the sets.
01:44There are DVDs that, for example, if I could use this example, Masters of the Universe.
01:51Masters of the Universe, the DVD season sets, originally started at around, I think they were about $40 a set.
01:59And then as distribution, they redistributed them, they recirculated them, and you could pick them up for $19, $20.
02:07There are other seasons, though, of other shows that, unfortunately, after the initial release of the DVD, they don't tend
02:18to redistribute them anymore,
02:19and so therefore, the costs don't tend to go down, they usually, you know, they tend to go up.
02:27I find with the Hanna-Barbera stuff, especially, the Flintstones, Jetsons, and Scooby-Doo, aside from getting the, I think
02:38Flintstones was also available in a complete series as well,
02:42that was quite expensive, but these individual box sets certainly have gone up in value since.
02:49To usually find them in stores now, I think they're about $70.
02:53To find them online, there's certainly a lot more, but this, the initial Where Are You? was the first series
03:01that I watched, Scooby-Doo.
03:03I mean, would be, for every Scooby-Doo fan, would be the Where Are You? as the starting point for
03:09your Scooby-Doo collection.
03:11They also released, Scooby-Doo, the complete third series, or third season, which actually wrapped up, aside from some of
03:20the lost episodes,
03:22wrapped up, the leftover, now, they've got lost episodes on here, but there's something I'll actually want to, I'll mention
03:30as I get to the actual other sets.
03:34Like, they've aired this as the Scooby-Doo All-Star series.
03:39Now, the third series, the third season was good, but I so prefer the first and second seasons more, just
03:46for the core,
03:47just being a core Scooby-Doo episode, I think these were the better episodes.
03:52Just put those there.
03:55Scooby-Doo, of course, as I mentioned, was also released, the best of Scooby-Doo, the new Scooby-Doo movies,
04:02which was, again, for me, Fridays, Fridays after school, was usually the Scooby-Doo movies.
04:10And the movies would guest star, you know, we had Don Knotts, we had the Three Stooges,
04:19unfortunately, without Curly, it was Curly Joe, I believe, by this point, because it was near the end of their
04:24time.
04:26Laurel and Hardy, we had the Batman and Robin, which was very cool.
04:32The only downside with this season, or this set, is the fact that it actually doesn't have all of the
04:38Scooby-Doo guest stars.
04:42There was, I'm trying to see here, it says 15, but I'm almost willing to believe, and I should have
04:50actually looked this on Wikipedia,
04:51but there's probably closer to 20 or 20, 20, maybe 25 episodes that had celebrities.
04:58Like, for example, I don't even think, yeah, I mean, here's the guest stars, we got Three Stooges, Batman and
05:06Robin,
05:06Don Knotts, Dick Van Dyke, Laurel Hardy, Don Adams, but I mean, some of the ones missing, of course,
05:14the Sonny and Cher, which I don't think was in here, no, Jonathan Winters, Don Knotts, yeah,
05:27but the Sonny and Cher was actually a good one, too, and I'm really upset that they actually left that
05:33out,
05:35but we also had the Scooby-Doo movies, put that there, Scooby-Doo, I guess the remaining of what the
05:42Scooby-Doo Where Are You series,
05:44if you want to go back to the core episodes, the remaining you could probably then find in the Scooby
05:49-Doo Dino-Mutt Complete series,
05:52and that actually had 16 episodes.
05:55Now, this series actually paired a Scooby-Doo episode with a Dino-Mutt episode.
06:00I don't really, really ever remember watching the Dino-Mutt stuff when it was on,
06:04but the Scooby-Doo, this is actually a crucial set to find, it is, if you can get your hands
06:11on it,
06:12because it actually has some episodes on there where you would be watching it,
06:15and you'd be like, I remember that episode.
06:18Case in point, case in point, somebody did actually ask me about this,
06:22I think it was during my review of the Mystery Machine during the Spooky Spot,
06:28I commented on the Good Humor episode with the Three Ghosts of Chocolate, Strawberry, and Vanilla,
06:37and somebody said it wasn't actually part of that season.
06:40But actually what it is, is they grouped it together with the Dino-Mutt episode,
06:44which is actually, it's a shame, because most people I think probably wouldn't have picked up this particular season,
06:51just thinking that it was actually a team-up episode,
06:53but there were actually individual Scooby-Doo episodes on there.
06:57And if I pan down, ah, there we go right there,
07:00Disc 4, Side 2, The Ghost of the Bad Humor Man,
07:04and that would have been paired up with the Lighter Than Air Raid episode of Dino-Mutt.
07:10But if you are a Scooby-Doo fan, do not overlook this season, or this series set,
07:16because there is going to be a lot of Scooby-Doo episodes in there you're going to look at,
07:20and you're going to be like,
07:21I remember that set, or I remember that series, that episode.
07:25I did not know it was on this set.
07:28So that, to me, right here, right in this area here,
07:33I think is the core DVD collection for a true Scooby-Doo fan.
07:39Of course, by this point in the 80s, the Scooby-Doo series spun off,
07:44and I guess one of the first earlier ones we got was the 13 Ghosts of Scooby-Doo.
07:50This also represents the last Scooby-Doo series that I collected on DVD.
07:58While I was not a fan of the Scooby-Doo, 13 Ghosts of Scooby-Doo,
08:02I do have fond memories of it,
08:04because it was one of the first Scooby-Doo episodes that I watched from, I think, the beginning on,
08:11whereas, you know, of course, the Where Are You, this young guy,
08:15would have been too young at the time these were originally released,
08:19so I used to watch, of course, the re-airings of them on TV.
08:26But this was also one of the first times I remember a cartoon.
08:30If anybody remembers back in the 80s,
08:32there used to be a Saturday morning fall lineup special
08:36where they would talk about the new shows coming up in the fall.
08:39It was either the fall special that featured C-3PO and R2-D2,
08:49or it was the one that featured the kids from Saved by the Bell,
08:52but they basically went through,
08:54and I'm thinking it was the C-3PO,
08:56but they went through and they talked about the new series coming out,
08:58and the 13 Ghosts of Scooby-Doo was one of them, I remember.
09:02So I picked this one up.
09:04It's 13 episodes.
09:06Again, by this point, they've gotten away from the idea that
09:10it is a person dressed up as a monster or a ghost.
09:15Of course, they've got to find out, you know, pick up the clues and whatnot.
09:19This started getting into the realm of the ghosts,
09:24the real spirits and stuff like that.
09:27And I always thought this was the weaker part of Scooby-Doo
09:30when they started getting into spiritual entities.
09:34I always liked that they could go back,
09:37and I always wished they could just go back and do the mystery-solving end of it,
09:41because to me, that's my favorite kind of Scooby-Doo.
09:46But that's just a breakdown of all the Scooby-Doo seasons
09:50that you can collect as a Scooby-Doo fan,
09:55which then brings us back to this one right here,
09:58which is the Scooby-Doo Where Are You Complete series.
10:01This would be the complete series of Seasons 1, 2, and 3.
10:07The beauty of it is, as opposed to the aforementioned sets,
10:13those sets will, again, cost you $40, $50,
10:16if you're lucky, $60, $70 on average to buy them individually.
10:22You could actually buy this entire season or entire series in one set,
10:29and this cost me at Walmart, I believe this was $65.
10:36$65, that wasn't too bad at all.
10:39Of course, the real sell of it as well,
10:42because even though I already have the Seasons,
10:45there's no sense in getting them again,
10:47the real sell of it for me was the fact that
10:49they actually put the Seasons in a reproduction of the Mystery Machine,
10:57complete with areas right there, Shaggy and Scooby-Doo.
11:03If I turn this around,
11:04the one thing I like, too, is it's an open window.
11:06I actually have it on the shelf like this.
11:10Being that I have the other sets,
11:11I probably won't open this up too often,
11:13but I do like the fact that it's just on display.
11:17If I spin it around,
11:19I'll get a picture on the back of the gang,
11:22Fred, Velma,
11:24which I believe I said Soma in the Mystery Machine review.
11:28I don't know.

11:29I had the Simpsons on my mind, I guess.
11:31I've got Daphne, Scooby-Doo, Shaggy.

12:24Jam-packed full of fun right in here.
12:27I'll open this up,
12:29and I'll just take this out
12:31so you guys can actually see
12:32what the set looks like.
12:34You have to actually be careful
12:35when you take this out.
12:37I'll just put that right there for you guys.
12:42And then inside what we have is
12:44we have the mystery machine.
12:46Doesn't look like the wheels move.
12:48I don't believe they...
12:49Oh, you know what?
12:49They do move.
12:51But I mean,
12:52it's strapped down, obviously.
12:55I'm not going to even take this off
12:57because I might.
12:59I don't know.
12:59Maybe down the road I might,
13:00but right now,
13:01I think I'm just going to leave it as is
13:02and then I'm just going to keep it in the case.
13:06What's neat, though,
13:07is you've got Scooby-Doo
13:09and we've got Shaggy in the car there.
13:11Van.
13:13And a very nice van.
13:14Actually, far nicer than the
13:17mystery machine Ghost Patrol one,
13:19which, as I mentioned,
13:20didn't have the spare tire.
13:21It had the stickers and everything else.
13:23This is really my idea
13:25of what the mystery machine would be
13:27and really should be.
13:29If I open up the back here,
13:33and inside, actually,
13:35you've got your season sets inside.
13:40Now, the only strike I could give it
13:43is the fact that
13:44while you do actually get all these series
13:47or all the seasons in this set,
13:50all the seasons are the
13:52the really flimsy disc sleeves.
13:58It does tell you what
13:59every episode that's on each disc,
14:02but very flimsy.
14:05And that, I mean,
14:06that's really the only thing
14:07I could say bad about this set
14:09is while you would have to
14:11certainly make a larger case
14:14to, of course, house some of the large
14:16if they had actually just
14:17put in the new sets
14:19or re-release the original sets
14:22would be ideal.
14:23But, of course,
14:24your mystery machine would be
14:25quite large.
14:27Certainly, this is a cost-saving idea.
14:31And it would be ideal,
14:33you know, of course,
14:33for any Scooby-Doo fan
14:34who wants the seasons
14:36but just wants everything in one set
14:38where they don't have to go through,
14:39you know, three or four box sets.
14:44I also want to mention as well,
14:47Velma,
14:48I also want to mention as well,
14:49it's got that new DVD smell
14:51which I always love.
14:53But that is the set.
14:55It sits very well.
14:56I mean, this doesn't lock,
14:57so when you pick it up
14:58you have to kind of be careful
14:59that this hinge
15:00doesn't open up on you.
15:02But a very nice representation
15:03of the Mr. Machine
15:06right down to the great details
15:08of our two drivers
15:09or one driver's Shaggy
15:11and his passenger Scooby-Doo.
15:15So this is a great set.
15:16It's still available in Walmart
15:18as far as I know.
15:19Like I said,
15:19it'll cost you about $65 to about $70.
15:24But the great thing about it
15:26is if you didn't collect
15:28the initial Scooby-Doo sets,
15:31especially some of the rare
15:34first, second,
15:35and then, of course,
15:36the third season,
15:37this would be a good set to get.
15:39It's certainly a lot more reasonable
15:43in price as well.
15:46The only downside,
15:47aside from the way
15:49that the presentation is
15:50with the discs,
15:51it's also a shame
15:52that they didn't throw in
15:53the Scooby-Doo Dino Mutt Hour episodes
15:55as well as the Scooby-Doo celebrity movies.
16:00And then they could have actually had
16:01the entire Scooby-Doo epic series
16:06all in one set.
16:09But it would be a lot more
16:10than $65,
16:11so I don't think many fans
16:13would be willing to pay that.
16:15But I would say,
16:16on a side note, though,
16:17if you are looking to get,
16:19look at some of the rare
16:20Scooby-Doo episodes
16:21that you remember as a kid,
16:24but for some reason
16:24you've never been able
16:25to find them on Wikipedia
16:27when you look up these volumes,
16:28try the Scooby-Doo Dino Mutt Hour.
16:31That was where I found
16:33my episode that I've been looking for
16:35since I was a kid.
16:37But we weren't looking at these today
16:39because today's DVD spot
16:41was actually on the
16:42Scooby-Doo Complete series
16:45that featured both
16:46Seasons 1, 2,
16:48and then, of course,
16:49Season 3.
16:50A great set,
16:52a nice little display piece,
16:54and very reasonably priced.
16:56It is a must-have
16:58for any Scooby-Doo fan.
