00:08In the original game, the 6th world was Pluto.
00:13Ironically, despite being the smallest planet, Pluto was the largest and most diverse world in the game.
00:20Entropy has a different layout, but was similarly huge and diverse.
00:25The board music was played by a violin instrument.
00:29A melody that started out sounding mournful, and then it gets rather...
00:34I guess I would call it... distorted?
00:38It made me feel depressed and unnerved.
00:41Not something I would want to hear while trying to sleep.
00:45Strangely, none of the levels from the previous worlds were present here.
00:49Instead, there were 8 brand new icons.
00:52The bosses this time were Megalon, Batra, and Mechagodzilla.
00:59As usual, the first thing I did was go to the quiz level for another interrogation from Vase.
01:05But when I got there, I noticed something different.
01:08Instead of the usual goofy Ghidorah music, it was the password theme.
01:14The music change seems to be intentional, because after the first two questions at the start, the questions started to
01:21take on a darker tone.
01:23Do you like ice cream?
01:25Yes.
01:27Do you like clowns?
01:29Yes.
01:30Is time slipping through your fingers?
01:33Yes.
01:34Do you have any regrets?
01:37Yes.
01:38Do some people deserve to die?
01:41No.
01:43Is it safe to go out at night?
01:45Yes.
01:47Do you find it hard to sleep at night?
01:49Yes.
01:51Have you ever killed anyone?
01:53No.
01:55Do you want to kill anyone?
01:57No.
01:58Are you actually accomplishing anything?
02:01No.
02:03Does life have any real meaning?
02:05No.
02:07Do you like Mothra?
02:10I knew that last one was going to be a gameplay-related question, but I had no idea what the
02:16result would be.
02:17I answered honestly, because as I've said before, I never liked Mothra.
02:22Nobody liked playing as Mothra in this game, and there was a good reason for that.
02:27Every other time Mothra gets hit, she gets slammed back to the corner of the screen, and she sucks at
02:33fighting because her attacks are so weak.
02:36The only benefit Mothra had was being able to fly over obstacles in some levels.
02:41So I answered no, and Face actually replied back to me, not only with the maniacal expression, but with the
02:51text, too bad.
02:54I was taken back to the map screen, and I was shocked to see that Godzilla and Anguirus have disappeared
03:00from the board, leaving only Mothra.
03:03Face had just fucked me over.
03:06Needless to say, I was pissed.
03:09But there wasn't anything I could do.
03:12And I'm willing to bet that even if I had said yes, I would have been stuck with Mothra anyway.
03:17Face giveth, and Face taketh away.
03:22I took a deep breath, and got ready to explore.
03:26There were two paths I could take through the board.
03:28I decided to take the lower one.
03:30This turned out to be a good choice for reasons I'll get to momentarily.
03:34The first world ahead of me was a forest.
03:38So I started there.
03:40Almost immediately, I got an eerie feeling that there was something about this level that just seemed off to me.
03:47Even more than the previous ones.
03:50Perhaps it was the pitch black background.
03:52I've always been afraid of being in a forest at night.
03:55Something about all those trees make me feel surrounded and vulnerable.
04:00And the fact that I was stuck as Mothra didn't help either.
04:04Playing the game's previous worlds as Godzilla gave me a feeling of bravery.
04:09Being in control of the King of the Monsters, I'd be able to handle just about anything in my way.
04:15But it's not like that with Mothra.
04:17No feeling of strength or security.
04:20Now I'm just a weak, easily overwhelmed bug traversing into the unknown.
04:26Back to the level the music had new instruments.
04:29Sounding like woodwinds, followed by slow rhythmic drums and chiming bells.
04:34It gave me this feeling that I was intruding into some dangerous place I really should not be.
04:40After a while I encountered the first enemies of the stage.
04:44Or at least, I assumed they were enemies.
04:47They were strange, long-legged deer-like creatures.
04:51Instead of attacking, they were just idly walking around.
04:55I went to approach them and they ran away.
04:58I thought about shooting one with an eye-beam to see what would happen.
05:02But it seemed wrong.
05:04These creatures were harmless, so I passed over them and continued through the level.
05:09About halfway through, I encountered a group of deer-like animals.
05:13And also two new creatures.
05:15A sloth-like creature with a beak climbing on a tree.
05:18And hairy raptor-esque creatures that were preying on the deer.
05:23It was very surreal watching these creatures interact.
05:26I didn't feel like I was playing a video game.
05:29But rather that I was traveling through a forest in some other dimension.
05:33The creatures ignored me for the most part.
05:36Although the raptors did attack me when I got too close.
05:40Or if I attacked them first.
05:41I know I shot one of them to help one of the deer creatures escape.
05:46I got clawed at, but confrontation was easily avoided by flying up to the top of the screen.
05:52At first I had to choose whether I wanted to play the levels with the hourglass or the TV screen.
05:57I picked the latter.
05:59What I got was not at all what I was expecting.
06:04When I pressed the button to start a level on the TV screen, like I normally would,
06:09this screen with an animation popped up.
06:12There was also music in the background, which was the goofy Ghidorah music that used it to be playing in
06:18the quiz levels.
06:19I was somewhat unsettled by this because it was just so strange.
06:24I also found it a bit spooky because I had a shirt that looked just like that when I was
06:30a kid.
06:31After starting the animation, you could go back to the board by pressing any button.
06:36After that I had no idea what to expect for the rest of these icons.
06:41I went to try an hourglass icon next.
06:44I was somewhat relieved when an actual level came up.
06:48It was certainly an unorthodox looking level.
06:51All brown with time-measuring instruments floating in the air and gigantic grandfather clocks in the background.
06:58The music was the same as the board screen.
07:01And very early at the level I encountered something else I didn't expect to see.
07:06Original enemies from the game.
07:09And not just that.
07:10It seemed to be a whole fleet of them.
07:13And the yellow tanks, which were normally immobile, couldn't move now.
07:17I took some damage, but it was nothing I couldn't handle.
07:21But the most interesting thing about this level was the colored hourglass items.
07:26There were three of these.
07:28One, a blue hourglass that made time slow down and filled the level with enemies from the past.
07:34Two, a red hourglass that made time speed up and filled the level with enemies from the future.
07:40And three, a green hourglass that set time to a normal speed and filled the level with the original game
07:47enemies.
07:48I encountered the blue hourglass first.
07:51As stated, the game started to slow down and I saw the enemies from the past.
07:58Which were five different types of prehistoric animals.
08:01I don't know much about prehistory, but I believed all of these enemies represent real animals.
08:08The level went into another segment and I encountered the green hourglass.
08:13And then I fought the original enemies again.
08:16It was the same five types, so I didn't take any screenshots.
08:20But in the last segment I encountered the red hourglass, and the enemies that must have been from the future.
08:27Now whether or not the game was showing me 8-bit renditions of creatures that will actually exist thousands of
08:33years into Earth's future, I have no idea.
08:36But with that thought in mind, I found this particular segment to be very eerie.
08:41And it was made more tense because everything moved faster.
08:46One of the future enemies bore a striking resemblance to something I saw in a book once called Trudan Man.
08:54Another looked like some kind of organic spaceship.
08:57There was only one of the fifth type of future creature, and when it appeared, all the others ran for
09:03their lives, leaving me alone to battle it.
09:07It could fly, but its sprite didn't actually move, and its single tack was firing a lightning bolt from its
09:13face.
09:14Even so, it was surprisingly powerful, and I suppose it could be considered a mini-boss.
09:21After defeating it, it left a health power-up that restored the health and energy I had lost fighting it.
09:28Which was convenient.
09:30It seemed I would need all the help I could get to beat this world with Mothra alone.
09:36After that previous stage I call Time Warp, the next stage appeared to be a toxic waste dump.
09:44As you can see, the place looks grungy and inhospitable.
09:48The music was a short looping of an ambient synthesizer song.
09:53Listening to it makes me feel like I have snipped some toxic fumes myself, and it was messing with my
09:59head the whole time.
10:00I even felt like I was choking while playing this level.
10:05The enemies all seem to be mutated to some degree.
10:09In the above screenshot you can see green mummies with bird skulls that jump out of the waste to spit
10:15projectiles.
10:16There's also a brownish cow skeleton monster with spider legs.
10:22Halfway through the level I even saw one of the deer from the forest.
10:26It was alone, and when I saw it it was drinking toxic waste out of a barrel with an anteater
10:31-like tongue.
10:33I was moving over to try and make it stop, but then this flock of skull birds came out of
10:38nowhere and started attacking.
10:40The deer was scared by this and ended up running off the ground into the toxic waste.
10:45I felt bad for it.
10:47One of the birds bit me, but I regained health quickly from killing all of them.
10:52They were rather weak.
10:54I pressed onward.
10:56Of all the levels in Entropy, this was probably the most, quote, normal.
11:00In that there was little deviance from the move forward smash things formula in the original game.
11:07I encountered more creatures through the level, like tentacle blobs and some kind of deformed thing with human teeth.
11:14I didn't feel like provoking them into a fight, so I kept on flying near the top of the screen.
11:20I still had to deal with occasional flock of birds now and then.
11:25At the end of the level was a large bluish green lake, and then I encountered another miniboss.
11:31Some kind of a monster with a long neck and a whale skull.
11:36It attacks with a mouth projectile and by charging into you.
11:40It also could go underneath the water and rapidly emerge from a different place.
11:45It was harder to beat than the monster from the time warp, and it had a lot of health because
11:50it must have taken me three minutes to defeat it.
11:52It let out a really loud noise when it died, and then sank back into the ocean as I left
11:59the screen.
12:00Back on the board, I went to the nearest level icon I haven't seen yet, which was a white tree.
12:06As I guessed, the level was a winter-themed recolor of the forest stage.
12:11But unlike the regular forest, I didn't feel unnerved starting this one.
12:17I think the music had a lot to do with it.
12:19It was a gentle, calm song.
12:21It almost sounded romantic.
12:24It was quite stress relieving, and the forest itself looked much less ominous, calmered in snow.
12:32I traveled through the first segment, enjoying the atmosphere for four minutes.
12:36But suddenly I realized something.
12:38I haven't seen a single creature since I started the level.
12:42Where are all the animals?
12:44Soon after, I left the screen, and the next segment started.
12:49In the second segment, I was still in the winter forest.
12:53But now the music was gone.
12:55I was starting to feel suspicious, but then I reminded myself that there were other empty levels in the game,
13:01and this was like another one of those.
13:03But then I heard something familiar.
13:06It was the twelve-second looping music from unforgiving colds starting up.
13:12I could feel my heart sink as I came across this horrible sight.
13:16It was a whole group of dead deer creatures, covered in snow.
13:21Judging from the blackish-blue tone of their skins, they must have all frozen to death.
13:26On closer inspection, some were missing body parts.
13:31Now I was frightened, but I still had to keep going.
13:35Before exiting the level, I was really hoping to see something resembling the previous forest animals in a living state.
13:41And sure enough, I did.
13:44It was a creature much like the beaked sloth, except this thing had white fur and was more like a
13:50beaked gorilla.
13:51It was walking very slowly when I saw it, but I was happy to at least see something alive.
13:57However, it didn't stay that way for long.
14:01A pack of raptors, who must have sensed that something else was still alive, came rushing in from the right
14:07side of the screen.
14:08The beaked gorilla didn't stand a chance, as one of the raptors immediately lunged at it and ripped open its
14:15back legs.
14:17These winter raptors acted far differently from their temperate relatives.
14:22While the other raptors only attacked while hunting prey or when provoked, the winter raptors seemed to have all gone
14:28insane.
14:30They attacked everything in sight.
14:32One was running back and forth, clawing at nothing.
14:36Even the noises they made sound different, more high-pitched and enraged.
14:41As I left this second segment, I saw two raptors fighting to the death.
14:46They were both covered in injuries, and one of the raptors had been blinded in one eye.
14:51I took a screenshot, but I didn't stay to see who won the fight.
14:57I only had to get through one more segment before I could go back to the board screen.
15:02But in this segment, I was no longer in the winter forest, but instead a very empty grassy plain with
15:09a bright grey moon in the sky.
15:12The pleasant music from Winter Forest Part 1 had returned, and immediately I started to feel dread.
15:20This is going to sound crazy, but it's the absolute truth.
15:24The game made this level from one of my memories.
15:29After a long stretch of nothing, I reached a lake, and then the moon moved down from the sky, and
15:36began to hatch like an egg.
15:38When it did, a curled-up humanoid figure fell into the lake as the moon halves quickly disintegrated.
15:46I heard a splash when it hit the water, then a moment of silence.
15:52Then the screen began to shake, and a new creature emerged from the water.
15:59And thus, I was introduced to a monster I call the Moon Beast.
16:04This was the only screenshot I took as I was focusing all my concentration on winning the fight, and it
16:12was the most difficult fight yet.
16:15Stronger than any of the previous bosses, this creature could have been hard to take down even with Godzilla.
16:22And with Mothra, it seemed nearly impossible.
16:26I suppose I would consider myself fortunate that the beast lacked any attacks like Gigan saw.
16:32Because if it had, I would never have won this.
16:36I barely had three bars of health when I finally killed this abomination.
16:42But what happened afterward is hardly what I could call a reward.
16:48I've been trying to keep my promise and suppress this memory for years.
16:53But it seems as if I have to get it off my chest.
16:57This was a very painful memory for me.
17:01But the game already knows about it, and I think you should too.
17:06I'll just tell you the important parts, because I don't like bringing this experience back into my head unless I
17:12have to.
17:14Back when I was in middle school, I had a girlfriend named Melissa.
17:19She suffered from some kind of mental disorder that caused her to go into episodes.
17:25When she was in an episode, she would stand or sit perfectly straight and still, and her face would instantly
17:32lose any expressions she had before.
17:35She would speak very clearly without any hint of emotion.
17:39When it was over, she would start trembling, and sometimes bury her face in her hands, and remain silent for
17:47several minutes.
17:48I can't really convey the feeling it gave me in words, and I won't try.
17:53You had to see this in person to understand.
17:56But despite this, she was a very kind person, and I cared about her dearly.
18:02We liked to hang out in a field at night, and look at the stars.
18:06But one night, she didn't say anything to me at all.
18:09She just stared directly at the moon, trembling.
18:13I tried to talk to her, but she suddenly sprung up, and ran right into traffic.
18:18I tried to stop her, but I was too late.
18:22She got hit by a truck, and was killed that night.
18:28I looked her right in the eyes when the wheels went over her neck.
18:32That sight has always haunted me.
18:36I know that the game knows about this, because after I defeated the moonbeast, this happened.
18:45Oh, my God.
18:51Oh, my God.
18:58That town Yeller-
19:18After that, the game went back to the board screen.
19:23It was all I could do not to burst out screaming, and my hands were shaking so bad I could
19:29barely
19:30hold the controller.
19:32I knew the game was going to test me if I kept playing, but I had no idea it would
19:37go
19:37so far, or that it was even capable of doing what it just did.
19:42I could feel my brain going haywire as I asked myself, did the game just read my mind?
19:51That didn't seem possible, but what other explanation was there?
19:56It was then that I could no longer deny what now seemed obvious.
20:01The game is alive, and not only that, it also can establish some kind of mental connection
20:08with the player.
20:10And yet, I couldn't convince myself to stop playing.
20:14I don't know if it was the game messing with my mind or just my stubborn curiosity.
20:19But even with the previous revelation, I really wanted to see this through to the end.
20:25Even more than I did before I beat dementia.
20:29Terrifying as it might be, even dangerous, I knew that if I quit playing I would never be
20:35able to stop thinking about it.
20:37If I tried to restart the game, it might go back to being normal again.
20:41How many people ever get to witness something like this first hand, let alone be able to
20:47take screenshots of the whole thing?
20:50Fucked up as it was, this was the experience of a lifetime.
20:54But even so, I couldn't take any chances with my health.
20:58I had the TV remote right next to me, ready to turn the TV off in case I felt I
21:03was in actual danger.
21:04And if that didn't work, I would pull the plug out of the wall, or just run out of the
21:09room.
21:11Sure enough, that would be enough.
21:14Whatever powers the game has, it seemed to be confined to what it can show on the TV and
21:20whatever its mental connection could do.
21:23The latter was what worried me.
21:26I still didn't know what I was dealing with, so I wasn't about to underestimate it.
21:31I took a break for a few minutes to calm my nerves, and then it was back to the game.
21:36And speaking of TVs, there was a TV screen icon right below the white forest I had just
21:42left.
21:43And because the first animation was so bizarre, I figured I'd try another to see what happens.
21:50Although I expected the same animation, I actually got a totally different one.
21:56Weird.
21:57The music for this one was the Neptune board music.
22:01Fitting I suppose, since it's a fish man after all.
22:04I can't help but wonder what the point of these things are.
22:10There was only one more TV icon, so I figured it must have a unique animation of its own.
22:16I was going to make sure to see what it was before I left Entropy.
22:22But then it was time for another level.
22:24The gold brick icon was the closest thing, so I went to that.
22:28And I started up in a gold labyrinth level.
22:33My health and power were refilled.
22:36Not sure how or why, but I was glad not to be heading in the unknown nearly dead.
22:40I also noticed that my Mothra sprite had shrunken to half its original size.
22:46The music was a slow, ominous drum beat, with female vocals kicking in about a minute into
22:52it.
22:53Quite haunting.
22:55The gold labyrinth itself was an anomaly.
22:58I'm not sure how this level would have played out if I were using Godzilla or Igueris, because
23:03flying seems necessary just to get around this place.
23:08Another thing that caught my attention was that when you go left, your monster actually
23:12turns and faces the left.
23:15That sounds stupidly obvious, but in the original game you were only supposed to move to the right.
23:22So when you tried to move left, your monster ended up walking or flying backwards.
23:27This level was apparently gigantic in size, because every time I thought I had reached an
23:33end to it, I was going to end up back where I started.
23:36I encountered something totally new.
23:39Things like lava blockades, new enemies, and statue faces.
23:46And I found one statue at a dead end, with a wide open eyed stare.
23:51The night Melissa died, she had an expression on her face that looked exactly like this the
23:57whole time.
23:58Even when she got hit by a truck, she still had the same expression.
24:02I can't help but feel like something really is staring at me from behind the screen when
24:07I look at this.
24:09I really didn't want to be reminded of that night anymore, so I left the statue almost
24:13as soon as I found it.
24:15I needed to find the exit anyway, which proved to be no simple task.
24:20It felt like this level stretched on forever in all directions.
24:25I must have wandered around the level for at least 15 minutes before I finally saw something.
24:31It was a creature that wasn't gold, seemingly the only one of its kind in the level, lacking
24:37any kind of hover ability like the other creatures.
24:40It just walked back and forth on the platform.
24:44But it wasn't long after I found it that a flying machine swooped down and grabbed it,
24:49and then flew off with it.
24:50The machine apparently had not seen me, so I decided to follow it, to see where it was
24:56taking the creature.
24:58The machine stopped at a room with a large cauldron-like object in the center.
25:02The machine hovered over the cauldron and dropped the creature into it.
25:06The creature emerged from a hole in the cauldron's side, now adorned in the same gold color as
25:12everything else.
25:13The machine flew off.
25:15I'm not sure what to make of this, but I'm glad I came upon it, because I found the exit
25:21soon after.
25:23When I got back to the board, I realized that the bosses haven't moved at all.
25:28A bit odd, but it didn't bother me.
25:30It made planning my route through entropy easier.
25:34There were two new icons to explore, the indigo cliffs and a black version of the labyrinth.
25:41Since there were only three black labyrinth icons, which were surrounded by bosses, I played
25:47the indigo cliffs first.
25:49It was a lot like playing the blue or green mountains.
25:53The level graphics had the same shredded look to it.
25:56There's also a recolor of the clouds in the moon from the toxic waste dump.
26:01The music, if you can call it that, was merely a deep rumbling noise.
26:06One of the first things I encountered was these multicolored creatures with big heads emerging
26:12from a small cave in the ground.
26:14They all made a synchronized shaking sound, and they walked to their right in a group after
26:19emerging from the cave, ignoring me.
26:22Having no other way to go, I followed them on their route.
26:26More and more emerged from the cave until the group had about a hundred creatures.
26:31Eventually the pathway ended in a cliff.
26:34I was shocked to see that upon reaching the cliff, all the creatures began jumping off into
26:38the abyss.
26:40I've seen enemies walk off cliffs before, but I've never seen NPCs commit mass suicide like
26:46this.
26:47Very unsettling to start off a level.
26:50I continued on, flying over various stage animals like the ones shown here.
26:57Another group of multicolored bobbleheads were jumping up and down, only to be snatched
27:02up by large birds, which I'm fairly certain are sprite versions of the giant condor from
27:07Godzilla vs. the Sea Monster.
27:10I defeated some of the condors in battle, but it bothered me that these bobbleheads seemed
27:15to be so eager to die.
27:16If the game itself is alive, perhaps the creatures in these levels are also alive?
27:22And some have very unhappy lives?
27:27In the back of my mind, I also suspect that the glowing moon in the sky is the reason.
27:36At the end of the level, I saw yet another group of bobbleheads marching up to a large monster
27:42and being devoured.
27:44This was starting to disgust me, so acting on impulse, I fired off I-beams at both the
27:49monster and the bobbleheads.
27:51I destroyed the cave.
27:53The monster became angry and ran through the remaining bobbleheads to fight me.
27:58Although it lacked any ranged attacks, it was relentless, but it was no match for me.
28:04I was in the homestretch now.
28:06Up to the bosses, my plan was going through Batra first, then Megalon.
28:11After that, I would watch the last TV screen, play the Black Labyrinth before fighting Mechagodzilla,
28:17and lastly, go through the chase with the Hellbeast.
28:21I was curious to see if it would be in a new form again.
28:25But first things first, it was time to beat up Batra.
28:30As expected, he started off in his larva form.
28:33The music was Varen's battle theme.
28:36Whenever the game puts in a new Godzilla Kaiju with more than one form, that other form always
28:42shows up.
28:44For a game that's otherwise inexplicable, it's rather startling with its consistency and accuracy
28:50with the new Kaiju bosses.
28:52The fight started off simple.
28:54Larva Batra fought in a similar fashion as Magma did, charging back and forth and occasionally
29:00firing off lightning from its horn.
29:03During the battle, I noticed that Mothra's combat capabilities have been altered in my
29:07favor.
29:08The I-beams did twice as much damage as they did originally.
29:12Now they were as strong as Godzilla's punches.
29:15The poison powder was simply improved.
29:17It also did this nice thing where it would actually HIT an enemy when you use it.
29:22In the original game, even though Mothra could fly, she was unable to fly over an opponent.
29:27You would get knocked back the same way as if you just ran straight into them, which was
29:32extremely annoying.
29:34But not anymore.
29:35I could change direction and fly around, which was a big help.
29:39Because fighting Imago Batra was much like fighting a clone Mothra.
29:44Although Batra is distinctly faster and stronger.
29:47No longer impeded by its slow-moving larva form, Imago Batra was a fearsome opponent.
29:55Although it lacked the horn lightning, it now had a new, more powerful I-beam.
30:00Batra could change direction just like I could, so this battle involved a lot of flapping and
30:05flying around.
30:07It was pretty damn fun to be honest.
30:10So after defeating Batra, I was excited to see what Megalon would be like.
30:15But first, I went through an Indigo Cliffs level and shot through a lot of creatures for
30:20health power-ups.
30:22So about Megalon.
30:24His music was Gigan's theme.
30:26Makes sense since Gigan was his battle partner in Megalon's one, and so far only, film appearance.
30:33He was a lot like Mogira, but faster and with more weapons.
30:37He'd start off charging off with his drills.
30:41I like to fly back and forth around him, which seems to really annoy him.
30:45After a few seconds, he'd step back, turn around, and start spinning out grenades.
30:50Those were a pain, because they bounce when they hit the ground.
30:55Lastly, it started spamming his lightning beam.
30:58It only went straight forward, so it was easy to duck under and then shoot him with I-beams.
31:05Overall, I described him as strong and persistent, but dumb.
31:10I was now nearing the end of Entropy.
31:13I had just taken down Megalon, and I started up the last TV screen to see what I'd get this
31:19time.
31:20The result was unpleasant.
31:23The music of this gruesome scene was the password theme.
31:26I couldn't figure out why this animation was so sinister and violent in comparison to the
31:32other two.
31:33The whole game seemed to be growing more benevolent.
31:36As I went on to finish Entropy, I began to feel... drained.
31:42It's hard to describe, like I had suddenly became tired when I wasn't before.
31:47Most likely it was just the tension from all that has been happening with the game getting
31:51to me, but who knows.
31:53The last level type on Entropy is what I call the Shadow Labyrinth.
31:58The scenery was recolored from gold to black.
32:02The music was an evil ambience, similar to the unforgiving cold loop, but distinctly different.
32:09The music was my first sign that this level was going to be distressing.
32:13I traveled through the maze for about a minute and I noticed that there weren't any creatures
32:19hovering around.
32:20It was an odd transition from the gold labyrinth, which was overrun with creatures, to this level
32:27that had nothing at all.
32:29But then this might be a good thing.
32:31Maybe there wouldn't be any obstacles and I could get through the level with ease.
32:36Then the screen went dark.
32:40And immediately I snapped out of my daze for a few seconds earlier.
32:45Everything had been darkened so that the only thing I could see was the Mothra Sprite.
32:49I couldn't tell where I was going and I ended up frantically running into walls.
32:54I heard a noise, the sound of a crowd running through a hallway.
32:58And along with the running came the roars, loud, roaring sounds, which I could describe
33:05as something like a rabid dog the size of an elephant, screaming with fury.
33:09And I could tell that whatever was making this noise, there were lots of them.
33:15I knew there was something there, but it wasn't until I did some screen cap editing that I
33:20got to see what my pursuers looked like.
33:23But at the time I couldn't see where they were, or where I was going.
33:28I was literally running blind and this mob of beasts eventually caught up with me.
33:34All I could think was, NO!
33:35As I saw my life bar rapidly declining.
33:39The monsters had taken me down to half of my total health when I was saved.
33:45The light came back on and the attackers had disappeared.
33:49And so the challenge of this level was revealed.
33:53Find the exit before the lights go out and a pack of monsters maul you to death.
33:59I was in panic mode now, moving as fast as I could while trying every path I could find
34:05our way out.
34:07As I played through the level, the lights went out a total of three times.
34:11The second time, I would have been dead meat had it not been for one of the wide eyed statues.
34:19As I stayed close to it, the monsters seemed to all avoid me until the light came back.
34:24The statue wore them away somehow.
34:28I was safe as long as I stayed near the statue, but at the same time I had to leave
34:33to find the exit.
34:35The shadow labyrinth turned out to be much smaller than the gold labyrinth, as it only took about six minutes
34:41to navigate to the end.
34:42But before the exit, there was a row of halls leading straight down, with no way out once entered.
34:50You either go to the exit before the monsters reached you, or you died.
34:55Thankfully, I made it out.
35:05Not only did my life shoot back up to 100% again it seems to do that randomly, but instead
35:12of a replacement
35:12boss, I was fighting Godzilla.
35:15But any Godzilla fan worth their salt can figure this out.
35:20Mechagodzilla started off like fighting a cloned Godzilla, but his disguise burned away after only three light bars.
35:27Usually a transformation only occurred at the halfway point.
35:31At this point, it was like fighting Mechagodzilla in the normal game.
35:35It felt kind of nice to fight one of the original game enemies for a change.
35:40Although, he wasn't exactly like normal.
35:43He also had a rainbow beam and finger missiles.
35:46This prevented me from doing the old trick of backing him in the corner and hitting him with I-beams
35:51in a spot where he can't hit me.
35:53But that was always a cheap trick anyways.
35:56But after getting him down to half his health, something weird started to happen.
36:02His sprite started to glitch in much the same way as Gezora had way back in the first world.
36:08After a few seconds, the glitches began to form a new shape.
36:13And thus, the game had created not Mechagodzilla.
36:18And I discovered that this visual glitch was somehow related to the game recreating things.
36:24The human face on this one gave it a very uncanny look.
36:29It was one of the stronger replacement monsters and had the most firepower.
36:34Pictured here is its mouth beam, which I got caught in the middle of.
36:40Even though it was a bit stronger, it was also slower than its original counterpart and couldn't jump around as
36:46much.
36:47I won the fight by constantly staying out of its line of fire, bombarding the machine with poison powder as
36:53I flew over it.
36:55One last thing to do.
36:57The Hellbeast chase.
37:05The Entropy End chase ended up being exactly what I was afraid it would be.
37:10A labyrinth level.
37:13All the other chases, although difficult, were extremely straightforward.
37:17You just had to run to the right and not get touched.
37:21But this took all the simplicity out of it.
37:24There was no telling how big this labyrinth would be, or where the exit was.
37:29And now, not only did I have to constantly backtrack to find my way out, I also had to avoid
37:35getting one hit killed by the red monster.
37:39And for those first thirty seconds, it didn't show up.
37:43But I knew it would.
37:45And as I started to pick up the pace, I heard a loud flapping noise.
37:50And there it was, in a flying form.
37:54It flew with bat-like wings, and was as fast and relentless as ever.
38:01For reasons already stated, this was probably the most nerve-wracking of all the end chases.
38:07And as such, I had to keep my focus on the game, and not take screencaps.
38:13However, I did take one of the red monster doing something I found very interesting.
38:18I had managed to lose it by going through a different path than it apparently expected.
38:23And it was blocked from attacking me by one of the organic walls of the red labyrinth.
38:29Or so I thought.
38:31It tried clawing through the wall for a second before it opened its mouth and tearing the wall apart with
38:38its intestine jaws.
38:40But for those brief milliseconds that the monster was held back, might have been the key to me finding the
38:46exit.
38:47The path to exit was long and complex, but from what I remember I went up, and then back towards
38:52the left.
38:53I'm still not sure why I chose that particular way.
38:57Just a lucky hunch, I suppose.
38:59I was sweating profuriously, but my luck has saved me yet again.
39:05I hoped that it wouldn't run out before I finished the game.
39:08There were only two more worlds to go.
39:11Next was the penultimate world, called Extus.
