The controversial visit of former Spanish Prime Minister Felipe Gonzalez to Venezuela has been met by strong opposition from Venezuelan society, which accuses him of meddling in the country's internal affairs. Gonzalez will not be allowed to participate in the legal defense of jailed far-right opposition leaders Leopoldo Lopez and Daniel Ceballos, in prison for their role in provoking violence during demonstrations aimed at destabilizing the government in early 2014. The Venezuelan Supreme Court ruled that existing legislation would not allow Gonzalez as a foreigner to act as a lawyer within the country. teleSUR
