The Union of South American Nations (UNASUR) is a regional body founded in 2008, with 12 member states. It seeks to strengthen the political, social, economic, and cultural integration among the peoples of the region. Immediately after the devastating January 2010 earthquake in Haiti, the UNASUR launched a series of assistance programs in the Caribbean country to promote food security, health, and housing and to strengthen its institutions. "UNASUR in Haiti: A Reflection of Argentinian Solidarity", a documentary produced and directed by Jorge Gil, tells the story of the four years of this successful example of south-south cooperation. teleSUR
