00:08Cinema is certainly not shy about letting characters die in uncontrollable ways.
00:14Welcome to WatchMojo.com and today we're counting down our picks for the top 10 accidental movie deaths.
00:25For this list, we're taking a look at the moments in film where characters meet their makers unexpectedly and by
00:32accident.
00:33Well, that's probably the way he would have wanted to go.
00:37What?
00:38We've excluded scenes with premeditated deaths and reasonable explanations.
00:42Our focus is solely on the unpredictability and randomness of certain movie characters passing.
00:48Oh shit!
00:50Come on!
00:51What is going on?
00:53How's he walking right now?
00:55He looks like he's gonna walk it off.
00:56He's gonna be fine.
00:57Number 10.
00:59Aim for the Bushes.
01:00The Other Guys.
01:01You have the right to let me!
01:06Silence!
01:08But I wanna hear you scream!
01:11Stupid is as stupid does.
01:13Uh, Danson, are the rumors about you and Kim Kardashian true?
01:16No comment.
01:18But yes.
01:21This appears to be the thinking in this pivotal scene in which New York detectives Highsmith and Danson pursue a
01:27group of criminals.
01:29Unfortunately, the chase leads to a rooftop and the criminals escape via an easily dismantled zip line.
01:34You think of what I'm thinking, partner?
01:36Aim for the Bushes.
01:39Danson and Highsmith are of one mind in what comes next though.
01:42A bold leap off the building.
01:45The intent may have been to safely land on the bushes below, but it doesn't seem the detectives accounted for
01:50aim.
01:53There goes...
01:55Or gravity for that matter.
01:57Cops still argue to this day why Danson and Highsmith jumped.
02:01Maybe it was just pride, having survived so many brushes with death.
02:05Maybe their egos pushed them off.
02:07I don't know.
02:08That shit was crazy.
02:10Number 9.
02:11Steamrolled.
02:12Austin Powers, International Man of Mystery.
02:16It's Bolton.
02:17We've got a problem.
02:18Random henchmen for evil villains typically have a low survival rate.
02:21And that's primarily due to their own ineptness.
02:25Watch out!
02:26Move!
02:26Move!
02:27Move!
02:27Move!
02:27This may be stretching the definition of an accident, but somehow it still feels out of everyone's control.
02:33Cheater chop!
02:35While making a truly high octane escape, Time Display's secret agent Austin Powers and his partner Vanessa face the issue
02:43of dodging security guards.
02:48One particular guard can't get away in time and is brutally crushed by a slowly moving steamroller.
03:00Let's go! Come on, let's go!
03:02We're obliged to ask, how do security personnel lack such basic survival instincts?
03:07Number 8.
03:08Unfortunate Bisection.
03:10Walk Hard.
03:11The Dewey Cox Story.
03:12I challenge you to a duel, sir.
03:15Sibling play fighting is nothing new.
03:17And yet, we're still surprised by this scene's outcome.
03:20Oh, Mad Paul gets it when we play with his machetes.
03:23Come on, Dewey.
03:24There's nothing wrong with little machete fighting.
03:27Now, Encore!
03:28Then again, the prospect of two brothers, Dewey and his sibling Nate, playing around with their father's machete is certainly
03:34unusual.
03:35The sequence transitions from cute brotherly combat to jaw-dropping body horror as Dewey's machete becomes unsheathed and strikes a
03:43mortal blow.
03:44Prepare to meet your maker.
03:51That's not the end of it, though.
03:53Nate, despite being halved, is still alive enough to make some humorous remarks.
03:57I'm halved!
03:59Oh, we should've lost his paw!
04:01Just remember, the wrong kid died.
04:03You're not even half the boy that the top half of Nate was, half the encounterman half.
04:08So you're saying I'm less than a quarter of the boy Nate was?
04:13The wrong kid died!
04:14Number 7, Godspeed Goblin, Spider-Man.
04:22Chalk this one up to poor judgment.
04:25At the climax of Spider-Man, the hero faces his glider-riding foe in a ruined building.
04:33Fists fly, bricks shake, and when the dust settles, the Green Goblin lies on the ground at Spidey's mercy.
04:46But he's not done yet.
04:47Revealing his true identity, Goblin appeals to Spider-Man's sympathies, while subtly commanding his glider to strike.
04:54Stop! It's me!
05:02Thankfully, Spidey knew when to dodge oncoming projectiles.
05:05We can't say the same about Green Goblin.
05:08Sure is convenient how all Spider-Man's nemeses get themselves killed, huh?
05:17Number 6, Blood and Woodchips, Tucker and Dale vs. Evil.
05:22You guys go around and get the guy at the woodchipper.
05:24You take the big guy.
05:26Tucker and Dale vs. Evil stars Alan Tudyk and Tyler Labine as a pair of hillbillies going up to their
05:31newly bought cabin.
05:33At the same time that a group of teenagers goes camping.
05:36No!
05:41Oh good, look, your friends are here! Hey!
05:43After a series of misunderstandings, one of the teens attempts to rush Tucker, and instead, flings himself head first into
05:50a woodchipper.
05:57It's grimly amusing to watch Tucker struggle in vain to save the kid considering how easily this madness could have
06:03been avoided.
06:04Are you okay?
06:06While the beehive chase packs quite the punch, this one is still the biggest shocker.
06:11When all of a sudden, out of nowhere, these kids started killing themselves all over my property.
06:18Yeah, this one right here, he dove head first right into the woodchipper, into Woody right back there.
06:23Number 5, The Present, Happy Gilmore.
06:26Man, this is excellent.
06:30Oh, you got the spirit of a hockey player in you, Happy. So I figured why fight it, huh?
06:35We sense gift-giving may require a more delicate touch than this.
06:38Returning from a successful day of golf training, our titular hero, Happy Gilmore, is presented with a modified putter by
06:45his mentor, Chubbs.
06:46Well, I got something for you too, pal.
06:48What?
06:49Happy, being a compassionate friend and student, also happens to have a gift for Chubbs, the head of the alligator
06:55that took his right hand.
06:57Remember the gator that got your hand? I got his head.
07:00While it's usually the thought that counts, Chubbs is understandably horrified, and promptly falls backwards out an open window to
07:07his death.
07:10Number 4, Freak Gasoline Fight, Zoolander.
07:20Sometimes people just don't think things through.
07:23In this 2001 comedy, Ben Stiller stars as the not-so-bright supermodel Derek Zoolander, living the high life with
07:29his three friends.
07:37During an excursion to a gas station, Zoolander's friends begin goofing around with the nearby materials,
07:42gravitating from squeegees to gas hoses, and all set to a wham soundtrack, of course.
07:55Everything's all well and good, until Zoolander's friend Brint tries to light up.
08:00Wake me up before it turns out.
08:04Such a waste of human life, and all that gasoline.
08:08You'll never listen to Wake Me Up Before You Go-Go the same way again.
08:13Number 3, Traffic Accident Meet Joe Black.
08:23Black comedy can be tough to wrap one's head around, especially when it comes so randomly.
08:28Take this scene from 1998's Meet Joe Black, for example.
08:38A young man, played by Brad Pitt, gazes longingly into the distance while crossing the street.
08:43After meeting a girl in a coffee shop, Pitt's character manages to avoid one oncoming vehicle,
08:48but fails to predict the pair of cars that subsequently run him down.
08:52It's a scene worth gaping at, though whether it's out of horror or amusement is up to you.
09:05Number 2, Melting Witch.
09:07The Wizard of Oz.
09:09Well, drink around the rosy, a pocket full of spheres.
09:14It's short, but cathartic in our eyes.
09:16Cornered by the guards of the Wicked Witch, our Kansas-born heroine Dorothy Gale and her assembled friends,
09:22can only huddle together in the face of evil.
09:24The last to go, we'll see the first three go before her.
09:29The Witch gloats, delivers threats, and even sets Dorothy's friend the Scarecrow on fire.
09:36Unfortunately for the Witch, Dorothy uses a bucket of water to put the Scarecrow out,
09:41splashing the Witch in the process.
09:46In the course of a few seconds, the green-faced source of villainy melts into oblivion,
09:51and with her, go our fears.
10:00Before we unveil our top pick, here are a few honorable mentions.
10:04As long as we got patches, we got a shot.
10:13God, no!
10:16Wait!
10:18Ow!
10:18Get away!
10:26God!
10:39You ever seen that show Cops?
10:41I was watching it one time, and there was this cop on,
10:43and he was talking about this gunfight he had in the hallway with this guy, right?
10:47And he just unloaded on this guy, and nothing happened.
10:50He didn't hit nothing.
10:51Number one.
10:52I shot Marvin in the face.
10:54Pulp Fiction.
10:55It's freaky, but it happens.
10:57In the realm of accidental deaths, this one might take the bloody cake.
11:01I mean, that's it for me.
11:02From here on in, you consider my ass retired.
11:05Jesus Christ.
11:06Don't blaspheme.
11:06Goddamn it, Jules.
11:07I said don't do that.
11:08In the final segment of Quentin Tarantino's second feature film,
11:12hitmen Vincent Vega and Jules Winfield drive through town with an informant, Marvin.
11:16Why the f*** didn't you tell somebody was in the bathroom?
11:19While discussing a miracle they supposedly witnessed,
11:22Vincent turns back to seek Marvin's opinion on the matter,
11:25and his gun suddenly discharges in Marvin's face.
11:27You gotta have an opinion.
11:29I mean, do you think that God came down from heaven and stopped?
11:32Oh!
11:33The resulting bloody mess is horrifying,
11:35though Vega and Winfield's reactions take the scene from unexpected horror to morbid comedy.
11:40Oh, man, I've seen some crazy-ass s*** in my time, but this...
11:43Chill out, man. I told you it was an act.
11:45You probably went over a bump or something.
11:47Hey, the car ain't hit no motherf***ing bump.
11:48So, do you agree with our list?
11:51What's your favorite accidental movie death?
11:53One!
11:54One!
11:54One!
11:55One!
11:56One!
11:56One!
11:57One!
11:57One!
11:58One!
11:58One!
11:58One!
11:59One!
11:59One!
12:10One!
12:11This is a shame he wasn't more headstrong.
12:14You'll never be the head of a major corporation.
12:17OK.
12:18OK.
12:18I'll do.
12:18Are you okay?
