Deaths to be reported in real time in major reform

For the first time, all deaths in custody will be reported in real-time, in a move aimed at reducing mortality rates, particularly for indigenous people being detained. More than 500 Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people have lost their lives in custody in the three decades since the Royal Commission into deaths in custody.
