00:00 In boxing, after being beaten by Nuneeto Donaire in his mission to return to being a world champion,
00:07 Filipino boxing fans are now talking about whether the Filipino Flash Donaire should retire.
00:15 But what is the opinion of a Filipino-American boxing analyst about this?
00:20 Rafael Bandayrel is back.
00:23 Nuneeto Donaire tried to make history when he fought for the vacant WBC Bantamweight title at the age of 40 last week.
00:32 But despite his efforts, Alejandro Santiago, who is younger than the Filipino boxer, was beaten.
00:39 Because of this, it is now hot to talk about whether it is time for the 4-Division World Champion to retire.
00:46 But in the opinion of Filipino-American boxing analyst Ryan Songgalia, Donaire is the only one who can say if he is ready to leave the boxing world.
00:56 Drama makes money. Sad doesn't make money.
00:59 People don't want to feel sad and see a fighter that they had admired for so many years being beaten by guys who wouldn't have been his sparring partner in his prime.
01:12 So I think that whatever Nuneeto decides to do, he should take his time and really consider his options.
01:23 Songgalia also added that Donaire doesn't need to prove anything if he is going to end his career.
01:30 After losing to Santiago, he may not get another opportunity.
01:35 He'll have to go down the rung, down the ladder and try to get another opportunity by beating somebody who is a young up-and-comer.
01:45 That's where boxing can get dangerous because you're talking about guys who are hungry to get to where he had been 10-15 years ago.
01:54 So Donaire is going to do what he wants to do. He's his own man.
01:59 But after all he's done in the sport, he has nothing left to prove. His legacy is secure. He's going to be a Hall of Famer.
02:10 Donaire lost his second fight to Santiago last weekend.
02:15 But before that, he made history by winning the WBC Bantamweight belt at the age of 48 in 2021.
02:25 Rafael Bandayrel, PTV Sports.
