00:00 I am signing copies of my new record, Fallen, a gospel record for sinners.
00:11 I grew up at the Baptist Church and I love all the hymns that come from there that I
00:16 remember from being a kid.
00:19 And then I've written some songs that are very much in the faith category, I think.
00:26 And I guess what really spurred it was On My Way to Heaven, which I wrote for my mom
00:35 when I got out of what I call cocaine school back in 1990 to let her know I was okay, because
00:42 I wasn't okay before then.
00:44 And we all, addiction and all that, we use things to fill a hole inside us.
00:51 It's what we do.
00:52 I don't have any regrets about life or anything, but I'm really glad I'm not in that life anymore.
00:59 I mean, I stopped because I came home and I was in a band.
01:05 We got a record deal and they broke up because of me, because I was not reliable.
01:15 I remember going home and having kind of a white light experience that I saw myself either
01:20 dead or in jail or losing everything I had.
01:25 You know, I didn't want that.
01:27 When you're done with the addiction, you need something to fill that hole, something that
01:31 really works, right?
01:32 And I started reading the Bible again, but I also read the Bhagavad Gita, I read the
01:36 Dhammapada, I read the Koran.
01:40 And I went back and I read the Bible again, just like for the second or third time.
01:48 And I was really struck by the red words of Jesus.
01:52 For me, I started developing that personal relationship.
01:55 And the songs started to come out.
01:57 There's self-reflective, self-examining yourself, and also just where you are spiritually in
02:07 life.
02:08 And they're not churchy.
02:13 That's the thing I think I'm trying to get to.
02:15 All of us have a relationship with God, whether you're a Christian or not, or whatever.
02:23 We all have a relationship with Him.
02:27 It may not be good, but it may not even believe.
02:32 But you're still in a relationship to that side of yourself.
02:39 I was always interested in human behavior and why we do what we do.
02:44 So I was caught up and fascinated by it.
02:48 And then music and movies have been interwoven throughout my career.
02:53 I don't know if it's that I realized I could make it as an actor.
02:56 I just decided that's what I was going to do.
02:59 I was going to go out there and, you know, a couple of people, I didn't finish college,
03:06 you know, and people would say, "Well, what are you going to fall back on?"
03:10 And "Fall back to what?" was my attitude about it.
03:15 Because I just was determined that's what I was going to do.
03:19 Like I say to my kids, "Find something that you love to do and figure out a way to get
03:23 paid for it.
03:25 And you will have a third of your life kind of solved."
03:29 I'm grateful to still be here.
03:32 I'm grateful to be alive really every day.
03:34 You know, I think it's important to really enjoy your ride.
03:38 It is, you ride along in life as much as you can because there's a lot of challenges and
03:44 stuff to knock it down.
03:46 Plenty of time to feel bad about stuff.
03:48 So you really got to like make sure you're enjoying it.
