00:00 That's really what we're looking for is the joy of life,
00:03 which is our gift, actually,
00:06 that's the relationship with God that we all have.
00:10 It's at the bottom of it is the joy of being alive.
00:13 But we lose that in life really easily as kids
00:20 and it starts draining away
00:22 and we let the world take it here and there.
00:28 I am signing copies of my new record, "Fallen,"
00:33 a gospel record for sinners.
00:36 I grew up at the Baptist church
00:37 and I love all the hymns that come from there
00:40 that I remember from being a kid.
00:43 And then I've written some songs
00:47 that are very much in the faith category, I think.
00:50 And I guess what really spurred it was "On My Way to Heaven,"
00:55 ♪ On my way to heaven ♪
00:58 which I wrote for my mom
01:00 when I got out of what I call cocaine school back in 1990
01:05 to let her know I was okay
01:06 'cause I wasn't okay before then.
01:09 And we all, addiction and all that,
01:12 we use things to fill a hole inside us, it's what we do.
01:17 I don't have any regrets about life or anything,
01:21 but I'm really glad I'm not in that life anymore.
01:25 I mean, I stopped because I came home and I was in a band.
01:29 We got a record deal and they broke up because of me
01:32 because I was not reliable and I was, you know,
01:37 I don't know.
01:39 But I remember going home
01:41 and having kind of a white light experience
01:43 that I saw myself either dead or in jail
01:46 or losing everything I had.
01:48 And, you know, I didn't want that.
01:52 When you're done with the addiction,
01:54 you need something to fill that hole.
01:55 Something that really works, right?
01:56 And I started reading the Bible again,
01:59 but I also, I read the Bhagavad Gita,
02:01 I read the Dhammapada, I read the Quran.
02:05 And I went back and I read the Bible again,

03:45 find something that you love to do
03:47 and figure out a way to get paid for it.
03:49 And you will have a third of your life kind of solved.
03:54 I kind of really always saw myself
03:57 as more of a character actor, doing different things,
