00:02 - We focus on the news around sports betting.
00:05 And there was a story that came out last week
00:08 around Phil Mickelson, a guy that we know
00:10 is one that enjoys gambling every now and then,
00:14 but it was a large story about the sums
00:17 that Phil would put on various sports betting ventures.
00:20 Even a story about him trying to place a very large wager
00:25 on a Ryder Cup on Team USA,
00:27 in which he was involved.
00:30 Now, Phil Mickelson has been a very big focal point, Cam,
00:33 over the last two years or so
00:35 in all of the drama in the golf world,
00:37 with his stance on joining Live Golf,
00:40 some of his comments on the PGA Tour,
00:42 and obviously where things stand right now
00:44 with that eventual merger coming down the line.
00:48 And then you add in this story on Phil Mickelson as well.
00:52 Cam, what do you think Phil's rep is
00:55 right now in the golf world?
00:57 - Well, if you ask Lanny Wockids,
01:00 who won the PGA Championship back in 1977,
01:03 Phil is the most disappointing figure in golf.
01:06 Now, I don't know if I would say that necessarily, Ben,
01:09 but he has been a curious case
01:11 for honestly the last half decade.
01:14 You've seen a big time personality shift in this guy
01:17 ever since he joined Live.
01:18 He's like ashamed that he went over there and what have you.
01:20 He took the $200 million, blah, blah, blah.
01:23 And I never chastised him for it.
01:25 I was like, hey, go get your money, go get your bag.
01:27 But now you see all these stories kind of come out, right?
01:30 About his gambling habits
01:32 and maybe pushing the envelope a little bit.
01:35 You know, it's interesting.
01:36 I actually taped already this edition
01:38 of Believe Me on Friday.
01:40 And Brandon Lang, who we all know,
01:43 there's a movie about him,
01:44 "Two for the Money," "Sports Betting,"
01:46 all that good stuff.
01:47 He knows Billy Walters very well.
01:49 And he told me that he often is not blown away
01:53 by people he meets.
01:54 He was blown away by Billy Walters,
01:56 just the character, the decorum, et cetera, right?
01:59 Because Phil denied the whole Ryder Cup bet thing.
02:03 So that means that somebody's lying.
02:05 And after my conversations with Brandon Lang,
02:08 I am inclined to think that Phil Mickelson
02:10 is the liar in this scenario.
02:12 And what Billy Walters is talking about here is very real.
02:17 It's an issue.
02:18 Maybe it's still an issue for Phil.
02:20 Maybe he needs to tune into SportsGrid more
02:23 and talk about bankroll management.
02:24 I don't know, Ben,
02:25 but this really isn't all that surprising, I hate to say.
