00:22 This is the belief in accordance with the Ghost Month or Ghost Festival, according to
00:27 the 2023 Chinese calendar, which starts today, August 16, and will last until September 14.
00:34 This is the consideration of Filipino-Chinese businessman Mark Teh in opening his second
00:39 pet shop branch in Quezon City.
00:41 "We thought, okay, let's open the shop first, then let's see.
00:45 And then, after August, hopefully this September, we can open a grand opening.
00:51 But we just hope that August won't open, that there won't be a lot of orders in August.
00:58 There's no particular belief.
00:59 Maybe it's more on tradition."
01:01 According to Feng Shui expert and consultant John Sunchua, in Ghost Month or Ghost Festival,
01:07 the gates of the underworld's wing open so the souls of the deceased can freely visit
01:12 the world of the living.
01:13 "It sounds a bit ugly, but in reality, it's a good festival because it gives them a chance
01:19 to be happier, to have a more lively energy.
01:24 And we as our practice, we do prayers for them, we also do offerings for them."
01:30 In the belief, during Ghost Month, the introduction of anything new, whether in business, occasions,
01:36 or relationships, is not encouraged.
01:38 "During Ghost Month, everyone is around.
01:41 Sometimes we don't notice, we might hit them.
01:45 And if they're not happy, they might curse us.
01:50 Other activities like wedding, inauguration, signing contract.
01:54 Because later, we might hit someone and the events might get cursed.
01:59 Then it might not be long-term, but short-term."
02:02 Shunhua also discouraged negativity during Ghost Month as the negative energy from the
02:08 spirits may aggravate a person's situation.
02:11 If introducing anything new during Ghost Month can't be avoided, Ghost Month protector bracelets,
02:16 protection kits, and offering kits are recommended instead.
02:20 Always remember, there is nothing wrong in deciding to believe or disbelieve.
