00:00 Within minutes, the Hawthorne Street erupted into a raging inferno as several loud bangs
00:07 alerted neighbours.
00:08 I thought that doesn't sound right, went to my balcony and I looked over and I just saw
00:17 a flame starting to come out the top of the house.
00:20 Two Queenslander homes engulfed and a third severely damaged.
00:24 Multiple crews arrived, over 11 fire appliances with over 45 firefighters on scene.
00:30 As you can imagine, with the neighbouring properties involved, it was a large and confronting
00:34 scene.
00:35 It started off very, very quickly and it literally was extremely intense.
00:40 Flames were easily 10 metres above the roof.
00:43 A 66-year-old man inside was rescued by two neighbours.
00:47 He's fully singed, his hair was all off, basically all his clothes had burnt off.
00:54 Sat him down on the grass on the other side of the road, just got a watering can and started
00:58 putting water over the person and then we said to him, "Listen, we need to get a hose."
01:03 His wife also managed to escape with minor injuries.
01:07 She saw smoke coming from the back of the dishwasher.
01:09 She then saw through the window flames coming from the back of the home.
01:13 Fire investigators are now trying to determine what caused the blaze and if there were smoke
01:18 alarms inside the first home that caught alight.
01:22 At this stage, they don't believe it was suspicious.
01:25 Neighbours are still in shock at the destruction which has left two families homeless and their
01:30 mate in critical condition.
01:32 Hugh's, I guess he's a community member that helps the whole street out.
01:37 He's got a big heart.
01:38 We hope that he pulls through.
01:39 To lose your house like that is pretty hard.
01:42 The community says it'll rally together to provide much needed support.
