00:00 Reducing your carbon footprint and saving money on household bills can be done with just a few
00:05 helpful tips and tricks and this resident event at Gravesham's Woodvilly sought out to teach the
00:11 public how to go about it. Several stalls were on offer from free bike MOTs to minor clothing repairs.
00:20 It's all a part of the Borough Council's climate change plan aiming to achieve the status of net
00:25 zero by 2030. Well Gravesham Borough Council declared a climate emergency in June of 2019
00:32 and since then we've developed a climate change strategy and an action plan which we've been
00:37 working to deliver in a range of areas and events like today really give residents an opportunity to
00:44 come and speak to professionals and organisations that can give them advice to help them live their
00:49 lives more sustainably and events like today really do give residents a chance to come and
00:54 get involved more so than they would normally. The council are also working hard on the
01:00 decarbonizing of homes across Gravesend and we've got a really ambitious program for the coming
01:07 years including full decarbonization of homes and the improved thermal efficiency of our homes as
01:16 well. Southern Water were also at the function offering family discounts with water bills
01:22 increasing right across Kent and the UK putting immense strain on many households. So we've got
01:29 affordability tariffs and schemes for customers who are on low-income families so if you've got
01:36 less than 21,000 coming into the household we can support with a huge 45% discount off
01:43 your water bills and you can do that by applying online at southernwater.co.uk
01:48 I need help paying my bill and then you can apply for that online and if anyone's in receipt of
01:54 pension credits that's an instant 45% off your water bills and again that can be applied for
01:59 online or if you prefer to give us a call then you can just find the number online and talk to
02:04 someone here. I picked up a few useful skills myself. Fixing trouser buttons can often cost
02:10 a pretty penny but thanks to today's resident event in Gravesend I've been taught how to fix
02:16 any button that comes off my trousers. Pretty handy right? Bouncing off this event the Borough
02:23 Council are hoping to show Gravesham how to save money, energy and of course the planet
02:30 but reaching complete net zero in just seven years may not be so straightforward.
