00:00 With Mental Health Awareness Month just around the corner in May, one lifestyle
00:03 and Instagram artist is challenging you to face your feelings and put them on
00:07 display for the world to see. Yasaman Gedi created the challenge and was
00:11 inspired by the movie Inside Out, which was an awesome movie. I definitely was
00:15 crying a bit at a certain point.
00:17 Sadness, I have a super important job just for you.
00:20 All you have to do is get some makeup, divide your face in half. On one side you
00:24 put how you look every day, your public self, and on the other side you use
00:28 colors and patterns to show how you really feel on the inside. Yeah, but it's
00:32 not one of your typical hilarious dumb challenges. This is actually one that
00:36 forces you to face your fears and your true emotions, which I think is a very
00:40 important thing. Gedi also gets personal on her own Instagram, sharing her own
00:44 experience with anxiety in the workplace. On Instagram she wrote, "Why did I have to
00:48 be ashamed and lie about my anxiety attack? So many wonderful and amazing
00:51 people suffer from the same mental illnesses that I do on a daily basis. Why
00:55 can't we just talk about it openly?" And that's exactly what she did. And since
00:59 posting the challenges, she's gotten a ton of incredible, artistic, and beautiful
01:03 responses of people displaying not only their outer self, but their inner self
01:07 too. @HammadArt posted this picture, a visualization of how those with mental
01:11 health issues often have a fear of talking about them, saying, "If you did
01:15 speak up about it, you'll probably be labeled as overreacting, drama queen, and
01:19 think that you would lose the people you love, so you sew your mouth shut out of
01:22 fear." @stevieraysfx posted this image of herself addressing issues of inner
01:27 rage. And @winginitwithkayla uses her face as a canvas to shine a light on
01:32 her inner struggle with her borderline personality disorder. And the comments
01:36 are even positive too. We realize when people come out about the things that we
01:39 all think are weird or maybe different are actually pretty normal. I mean, we all
01:44 go through these issues in different ways. It's human. We're not perfect.
01:48 Perfection is overrated, and the things we go through is what builds character.
01:53 So how would you display your inner and outer self? Let us know in the comments
01:56 below, and of course, if you're dealing with any sort of mental health issues,
01:59 the Trevor Project and Crisis Text Line are two organizations to check out.
