00:00 Hey, it's Shira Lazar with Jazz Jennings.
00:01 I Am Jazz is on TLC every Wednesday.
00:04 You have a show right now around your entire life.
00:06 If we didn't know your life already from social media,
00:09 YouTube, all the stories we've come across about you,
00:13 tell us about the reality show now.
00:14 - So I Am Jazz is on Wednesdays at 10/9 Central on TLC,
00:18 and basically it just encompasses my whole life,
00:21 you know, what it's like being a transgender teenager,
00:23 and I think it demonstrates how I'm just a normal
00:26 teenage girl, you know, doing my thing, having fun,
00:29 and at school, everyone just treats me like a girl,
00:32 and it's awesome.
00:33 I get to play on the girls' team for soccer,
00:35 I could use the girls' bathroom,
00:36 the administration is supportive,
00:38 and all the kids don't bother me at all,
00:41 I don't face bullying, so it's cool to just be myself.
00:44 I'm glad that my school is accepting of who I am
00:46 and allows me to use the facilities that I wanna use,
00:49 but not all schools are like that,
00:50 so we're trying to create that change,
00:52 but like I said, we're not fully there yet.
00:55 - What was your favorite part of doing the show
00:57 and having something like this as a platform
00:59 to continue to spread the word
01:00 about who you are and what you do?
01:01 - I think the best part is knowing that we're able
01:04 to make a difference and help other people.
01:06 Seeing the reactions from fans after,
01:08 or hearing messages from transgender kids
01:10 who may have been struggling,
01:12 who say that in watching the show,
01:13 they were able to discover who they are
01:15 and be able to live their lives authentically,
01:17 I think hearing those positive messages
01:19 is the most rewarding part.
01:21 - Recently, there was obviously horrible news,
01:25 completely tragic of the shooting in Orlando.
01:27 What was your first reaction when you heard the news?
01:31 - It was terrifying, not just for me,
01:33 but for the entire LGBTQ community.
01:35 I think we're all concerned about our safety and protection,
01:38 and I think we have to be more cautious
01:40 'cause there's still hateful people
01:42 who are readily taking action.
01:44 - What message do you have to young people,
01:47 the younger generation,
01:48 who are seeing all this stuff happening right now?
01:51 - I try to let them know that they just have to stay strong
01:53 and keep moving forward.
01:54 I think love trimes hate,
01:56 and I think there are so many
01:58 accepting, positive individuals in our society
02:00 who are willing to accept us for who we are.
02:03 So find those people, associate yourself with them,
02:06 and be yourself, because there's nothing better
02:08 than being who you are.
02:10 - And now to all the adults who,
02:11 everyone has different opinions about so many things,
02:14 and they're representing the government,
02:16 or they're politicians, or they're speaking out.
02:18 As someone who's part of the younger generation,
02:20 what do you have to say to them?
02:21 - You know, I just, I come from an emotional place
02:24 of love and acceptance.
02:26 I think we should all just love and accept one another.
02:29 I mean, we are all people just trying to find our happiness,
02:32 find love throughout our time here on Earth,
02:35 and I don't understand why people
02:37 have to shut each other down
02:38 or spread such hateful messages to one another.
02:40 I think we should all just encourage each other
02:42 and embrace one another.
02:43 - I agree.
02:44 So many great messages of love here.
02:46 Jazz, it's always a pleasure seeing you.
02:48 You are amazing ray of light and positivity.
