00:00 Well, here in Brisbane it's really starting to warm up already.
00:04 It was a bit cooler earlier on but that has certainly changed and that's not good news
00:09 for the fire fronts because we have over 30 fires burning across the state of Queensland
00:14 at the moment.
00:15 In Shalwater Bay, which is up in central Queensland, there is a stay informed fire warning at the
00:20 moment and for those surrounding areas as well.
00:24 And there's various locations throughout the state with those warnings about smoke to stay
00:29 indoors and keep your windows closed because there will be a lot of smoke about as well.
00:34 So here in Brisbane we're going for a top of 33 degrees.
00:37 That's down a little bit from the early predictions of 35 degrees but look, it's still going to
00:42 be unseasonably hot.
00:44 We don't normally get hot days like this at this time of year and so the advice is to
00:49 stay indoors, to stay hydrated and obviously in air conditioning if you can, particularly
00:55 if you have any health concerns.
00:57 This morning here though, Corrina, we saw a magnificent fog blanket the city of Brisbane.
01:02 You can barely see the buildings in the city.
01:06 That hung around for quite some time.
01:08 We saw the sunrise come up with that and that has slowly dissipated as this heat started
01:13 to pick up.
01:14 But we did speak to a couple of people up here at Mount Coot-tha this morning about
01:18 the heat, the fog and the conditions we're expecting today.
01:22 I was a bit of a surprise.
01:24 Just a standard Coot-tha look, we came up here and it was a very pleasant surprise to
01:27 see a scene like this.
01:28 So I've taken a few pictures and sent them around the place and see what the boys have
01:31 missed out if they didn't come.
01:32 Not complaining.
01:33 We get to wear less cool weather gear so I get to roll around in closer to a lycra which
01:38 we like.
01:39 Yeah, I hear it's going to be a bit of a scorcher.
01:42 We're watching my nephew play rugby so it's going to be a hot one for him but looking
01:48 forward to it.
01:49 It makes a nice change from England anyway.
01:51 I'm going to be working from home so it should be fine.
01:54 We have got the air con and everything.
01:56 There's potential strike action or industrial action at the Kogan Creek power station today
02:02 and there was concerns with the extra use of air conditioners throughout the state that
02:07 perhaps Queensland's power grid wouldn't be able to meet that extra demand.
02:11 But we have heard from the Queensland Energy Minister, Mick De Brenne, on this.
02:15 He's quite confident that Queensland's grid will be able to meet any demands.
02:20 Whether there's industrial action or not, pointing to Queensland's renewables being
02:25 able to fill that gap.
