00:00 The Tatmadaw, that is the military of Myanmar, is currently facing its greatest threat since
00:04 taking over two and a half years ago.
00:07 The military janta faces a formidable challenge in its struggle to maintain control over the
00:11 nation's border towns from ethnic insurgent groups.
00:14 For the first time ever, various well-armed rebel groups are cooperating and making progress
00:18 towards the restoration of democratic rule.
00:21 People are fleeing to neighbouring countries as the result of the violence which is elevating
00:24 domestic unrest to a global issue.
00:27 Greater opposition to the janta has been organised by ethnic rebel groups, primarily based in
00:31 the periphery of Myanmar, following the Tatmadaw's takeover of the government in a coup in February
00:36 2021.
00:38 Rebels have recently advanced and taken control of almost 100 outposts in countries north,
00:42 including several important towns.
00:45 The rebel groups have taken control of towns near the border between India and Myanmar
00:48 too, and at least 73 military personnel have already fled to India as a result of the conflict.
00:53 In myths, the National Unity Government or the shadow government spokesperson, Yu Kuo
00:57 Tso has urged India to back the rebels in a recent interview with an Indian media outlet.
01:03 According to Mr. Tso, rebels' policy is to establish cordial, mutual, respectful relationship
01:08 with all of its neighbours.
01:10 They make it clear that they respect both the goal of having a stable Myanmar and Indian
01:14 interests.
01:15 He also emphasised the fact that the friendship between India and Myanmar dates back a millennium
01:19 and that India has influenced much of their culture.
01:22 The rebels pitched that they consider India to be the largest democracy in the world.
01:25 They therefore hope that the Indian government will recognise and honour the will of the
01:29 people of Myanmar and recognise that there is only one factor destabilising the country,
01:34 that is the military.
01:35 Till now, India's stance on the Myanmar civil war is cautious, balancing condemnation of
01:39 the military's actions with the need to maintain trade and strategic ties.
01:43 India has condemned the coup and violence.
01:45 It has suspended military training and has imposed an arms embargo.
01:49 But it has largely refrained from imposing severe sanctions due to regional stability
01:53 concerns and economic interdependence.
01:56 Regarding rebels, India supports the ethnic minority aspirations but it discourages violence
02:01 and provides humanitarian assistance aid.
02:04 It also promotes dialogue but it also criticises the armed resistance which is currently going
02:08 on in Myanmar.
