00:00 The 81st Annual Golden Globe Awards were held on January 7th.
00:06 Now, any avid social media user may have seen the viral clips of Cillian Murphy receiving
00:10 his award for Best Drama Actor in Oppenheimer.
00:13 "First question, do I have lipstick all over my nose?
00:16 No, I'm just going to leave it."
00:18 Or you might have seen the clips of Selena Gomez whispering to Taylor Swift.
00:23 What were they whispering about, by the way?
00:25 But here are some of the biggest moments from the night.
00:28 Primarily, Barbie and TV show Succession led the night with nine nominations each,
00:33 but it was Oppenheimer which came out as the biggest winner, winning five of its eight award nominations.
00:39 These wins include Best Drama Actor, Best Director and Best Supporting Actor.
00:44 Other big winners include Yorgos Lanthimos' Poor Things, which won Best Musical or Comedy Film
00:50 and Best Actress in a Musical or Comedy, the latter of which may have been much to Jennifer Lawrence's disapproval.
00:56 "Jennifer Lawrence, no hard feelings."
00:59 In terms of TV shows, kitchen comedy drama The Bear sweeped up three awards
01:05 and HBO's Succession won a total of four awards, including Best Drama TV Series
01:10 and Best Actor in a Drama TV Series.
01:13 Another notable win includes Billie Eilish's What Was I Made For, which features in Barbie,
01:17 which took the award for Best Original Song.
01:20 Now, speaking of Barbie, a few months on from the premiere of the film,
01:23 it looks like we may still be Barbie girls in Margot Robbie's Barbie World,
01:27 as she brought a splash of pink to the red carpet.
01:30 Robbie's outfit was a homage to the 1977 superstar Barbie doll dress,
01:34 and it seems to have kicked off something special when it comes to sequins.
01:38 We saw sequins as the heavy hitter donned by Taylor Swift in a green Gucci number,
01:43 and we also saw it on Timothee Chalamet, who stunned in Celine.
01:47 We saw a dash of sparkle too on Joa Liba, Natalie Portman and Emma Stone.
01:52 Now, we've covered the cinema scene-stealers,
01:55 but what were some of the most talked-about moments of the evening?
01:58 Well, users on X seemed specially enamoured by clips of Wonka's Timothee Chalamet
02:03 and Kardashian sister Kylie Jenner.
02:05 The new couple seemed particularly loved up as they packed on the PDA between ad breaks.
02:10 The award show itself was hosted by comedian Joe Coy,
02:13 who notably only had ten days to prepare for the gig.
02:16 Judging by the response on social media, though,
02:18 some of his jokes fell flat on the star-studded audience,
02:21 and a joke about Taylor Swift in particular saw the singer seem unamused as she took a sip of her drink.
02:27 It's also worth noting the two new award categories which were added this year,
02:32 them being for Cinematic and Box Office Achievement,
02:35 and Best Performance in Stand-Up Comedy on Television.
02:38 The former was won by Barbie, after the film earned a total of 1.442 billion USD at the global box office,
02:46 which saw it become the highest-grossing film that was directed or co-directed by a woman in US box office history.
02:53 With awards season off to a flying start, the Grammys, the BAFTAs and the Oscars
02:57 are all set to take place within the next few months,
03:00 so what kind of memorable moments will we be seeing from them?
