Dom Jefferies is out of action for the next two months according to Gilingham Head Coach Stephen Clemence.
Transcript
00:00 Quite an important one for Gillingham this isn't it Bartholomew?
00:02 Yeah absolutely, I mean if you look at the League 2 table Gillingham are currently 10th,
00:07 that's just three places behind Notts County who they'll be playing against but only one point
00:11 behind them and of course seventh place is the highest playoff place, we know that's where
00:15 Gillingham want to be by the end of the season. So a win against them tomorrow under the floodlights
00:20 would of course jump Notts County and put Gillingham back into the playoff places giving
00:24 them a much more positive outlook as they look towards this kind of sort of tail end of this
00:29 season now. Stephen Clement spoke to the press this week, he seemed rather excited for the game
00:34 although he did mention that being a Friday night fixture they've got one day less to prepare
00:39 you know throughout the week and we know just from looking at the difference in goals scored
00:43 between these two sides, Notts County 61 so far this season, Gillingham just 26. So we know that
00:50 those ongoing problems have been there for Gillingham but with a couple of new signings,
00:53 well three new signings, four actually, four new signings in the Gillingham, in the January window
00:58 rather, they're hoping to change things around. Let's hear from Stephen Clements now who said
01:02 that he thinks his side will be just as much of a challenge for Notts County as Notts County
01:07 will for them. Every game's a challenge, people maybe don't want to hear that and think we're
01:12 just going to roll everybody over whether they're the teams at the bottom of the league or the teams
01:17 at the top, every game's a challenge and I found that as a football player, I found as a coach,
01:21 we're playing professional football but it's also a challenge for Notts County playing us
01:27 so look, we bring our A game, we'll be right in the game, I promise you.
01:32 You mentioned that Dom Jeffries is going to be out of action but he's not the only player who
01:39 has injuries that are holding him back, is he? No, of course, Gillingham fans,
01:43 we're talking about some of the signings there, Gillingham fans are yet to see Josh Andrews play
01:47 for the side, I mean it's only been one game since he's been signed but he's been out of action
01:51 since December, he was previously on loan with Accrington Stanley but he was a Birmingham City
01:56 player, he was the biggest signing for Gillingham in that January window. Fans yet to see how he's
02:02 going to perform, I mean Stephen Clements said that he's been in training this week, won't be
02:06 in the matchday squad this Friday but potentially could be there in the next few weeks or so but
02:12 yes, of course, you mentioned Dom Jeffries, 21-year-old midfielder, you can see him on the
02:16 screen here, he's out of action as of last week, he's had quite a bad muscle pull on his thigh and
02:22 all we know at the moment is that he hasn't been called for surgery but Stephen Clements saying
02:27 that it's going to be quite the blow for the side and we can hear from him now.
02:32 What was the timescale with Dom, you mentioned weeks, I mean you're talking sort of like
02:42 eight weeks, which was cool. Unfortunately, yeah, we are looking nearer to that sort of timescale
02:47 which has been a real big blow for everybody, for him as well. 21-year-old lad who's been told he
02:54 can't play for that amount of time is difficult, so I feel for him but he's a big miss to the team
03:01 and to the squad. So yeah, we have to unfortunately wait for him to heal, he is normally a quick
03:08 healer so it could be quicker but it was quite a nasty tear on his thigh.
