The government is still looking for the best formula to address issues related to foundlings in the controversial citizenship legislation amendments, says Datuk Seri Saifuddin Nasution Ismail.

The Home Minister told the Dewan Rakyat on Thursday (March 21) that engagement sessions are still ongoing with the respective whips of various political coalitions, including Perikatan Nasional and Barisan Nasional.

00:02 [Premier] Thank you, my friend from Batanglupa. What efforts have the Ministry made? There are three.
00:09 First, a special task force has been established specifically for this purpose in the state of Sarawak,
00:19 which I and the Sarawak Prime Minister are managing. This is to deal with the problem of
00:27 people who do not have self-identification documents, especially in the interior.
00:33 So this team is a member of the State Registration Office and the Sarawak Municipal Head Office.
00:41 And for the entire last year, from October, the entire last year,
00:52 from October to December 2023, we have held programs in 12 locations and managed to receive
01:01 up to 5,210 applications. The second effort is the establishment of a special task force for the
01:12 status of citizens of the state of Sarawak to solve the problem of citizens' applications
01:20 under Article 15A of the United Nations. Children with disabilities, children under care,
01:28 or children with a child or a baby. We have managed to complete up to 946 applications
01:37 and this task force continues to receive applications. The unique thing is that the
01:44 applications will be collected and made a preliminary application by the Kingdom of Sarawak under
01:50 its Minister, Dato' Aja Fatimah. Then the Ministry of the Interior and the Kingdom of Sarawak will sit
01:56 to review the applications under Article 15A before making a decision.
02:02 The third thing, the initiative is a program that we call "Menyemai Kasih Rakyat".
02:10 This program aims to help residents get a identification card, a birth certificate,
02:19 a death certificate, and other services under the State Registration Office.
02:25 And this program continues for this year only. Last year, we managed to implement up to
02:35 6,466 applications and almost 110,637 people benefited from this program.
02:45 So I have explained about three initiatives and I have shared the achievement list.
