The price of Easter eggs has soared this year due to the worsening impacts of climate change. The Energy and Climate Intelligence Unit says a combination of climate change and El Nino conditions have driven up cocoa prices. The price of cocoa beans has hit a record high of more than £6,500 per tonne - up from £2,000 compared to this time last year. Report by Jonesia. 01:36 We basically found that Easter eggs, just in time for Easter,
01:42 are either shrinking--
01:44 so they're experiencing something
01:45 called shrinkflation when they get smaller,
01:47 but the price stays the same--
01:49 or they're just getting much more expensive.
01:53 We've seen an awful lot of incidents
01:55 where the prices have increased by over 50%
01:59 for just really well-known and much-loved Easter egg brands.
