00:00 And as Venezuela holds a day of consultation on community projects to improve the welfare of the people and address their needs
00:05 From Caracas, our correspondent Glais Quezada has more details on today's events
00:09 Yes, thanks for the time and the contact for all of our audience and also for Telus for English and from the south
00:18 Right now I'm in downtown Caracas in a commune center called Jose Pilar Romero
00:23 which is one of the many communal centers that are going to receive not only the voters but also the
00:29 over 200 international observers that are accompanying this process and right now we are going to talk with one of them that is going to
00:36 Give us his impressions regarding this process. So
00:40 Welcome to tell us your English and to from the south first of all your name
00:44 Your organization and which country do you came from? So my name is Samuel Olo
00:50 I'm the chairman of Mutaraku Harmonic Cooperative from Nairobi, Kenya
00:54 so
00:56 First of all, which are your impressions regarding this process and regarding the commune itself because right now
01:03 You are at one of the communal centers and you are able to see for yourself
01:07 The process the management and how they work. So which one are your impressions?
01:13 so
01:15 the people participation in the
01:17 In the decision making of the various various projects in the community. That is something very impressive
01:23 Like the people decide and vote which projects they want the government to fund
01:29 That's something
01:31 Not seen
01:34 Anywhere else so it's something very nice
01:36 so
01:39 exactly regarding
01:40 The legal process the consultation process itself. How do you see the management the organization of each one of the
01:48 protocol steps for the voting and
01:51 How has been the contact with the community and the authorities for you?
01:56 So I feel the the communities are more organized. They have organized themselves
02:02 into
02:04 structures that
02:06 They're basically running the structures by themselves and the government is just offering an
02:12 overall support but in terms of the people participation and the community participation the community leaders
02:20 It's just amazing. And what do you take back home from this experience? Yeah, so my take home is
02:27 For the our Kenyan government to to adopt some of these
02:32 ideas and and structures in the Venezuelan government
02:36 communities to let communities
02:40 to have more public participation with the communities to let the communities be more involved in their
02:46 in the in the in the decision makings of their
02:51 various
02:53 Activities that are affecting them on a day-to-day basis. So with the issue, I'm very impressed with the issue of like the community
03:00 deciding on various projects like site doing the sidewalks
03:04 rehabilitating the hospital
03:07 Rehabilitating some of the housing units. It's quite impressive
03:10 So thank you for your opinions and for your time with us here. Yeah. Thank you very much
03:16 So yes, we continue here and doing this tour for all the coming centers here in downtown Caracas and also to
03:24 Gather with the international observers who are accompanying the process as we were saying
03:29 this is a Sunday for popular consultation and community management here in Venezuela and
03:34 To decide over the resources and over the needs of the people so far does the information?
03:41 So now the signal is going back to you
03:45 Thank you, Gladys.
