00:00 It's not raining yet but this is the trash collected from the river Basig since the new year started according to the MMDA.
00:07 And the amount of trash in some places allowed the Pasig River Ferry Service to pass through.
00:12 Watch this, Danoting Kunco.
00:14 Because of the heavy trash in the river Basig,
00:21 the ferry boat trip from PUP Station to Loton in Manila almost stopped this morning.
00:28 The two ferry boats almost failed to make the trip, especially when the trash was floating in the LSE.
00:34 Their machines overheated because of the trash that they were passing through.
00:40 I dispatched two available boats from our nearby top yard to follow the passengers.
00:47 If ever these two boats overheat, we will be able to transfer from Valenzuela Station to Pinagbuhatan Station.
00:55 Three trash skimmers carried the trash but they couldn't handle the amount of trash floating in the river.
01:02 According to the Pasig River Ferry Service,
01:04 this is the thickest trash in the bay of their ferries since the rain started.
01:10 The trips are also supposed to be suspended but there are passengers that need to be transported.
01:14 We were forced to cross Loton Station.
01:19 It's good that the passengers arrived but the ferry was running slowly.
01:26 When we returned, the ferry was floating again.
01:31 Our trip was long. Instead of two hours, we reached three hours.
01:35 Sometimes, trash is passing by so it also stops.
01:39 Our trip is getting longer.
01:42 The MMDA issued a notice about the trash in the Pasig River
01:46 and also told the public to be responsible for throwing the trash.
01:50 They said that they will regularly clean the river that has been rehabilitated for decades due to the trash problem.
01:57 But since the year started,
01:59 151 cubic meters or 53 tons of trash were collected along the Pasig River according to the MMDA.
02:08 Around 4 pm, the river is now more clear in the Lambingan Station in Santa Ana, Manila.
02:15 They should avoid throwing trash in the river because it causes delay when the ferry boat is traveling.
02:27 And then the river is getting smelly.
02:31 When the water is getting low, the trash is floating.
02:35 The smell of the river is coming out so it's also smelly.
02:39 This January, the government launched a project to revive the Pasig River.
02:44 It will serve as a green corridor for the river and will have a safe walkway and bikeway around it
02:50 as well as parks and commercial establishments.
