00:00A 38-year-old jobless woman pleaded not guilty at the Sessions Court in Ayyar Kero to a charge
00:08of fleecing an elderly man, resulting in 416,000 ringgit in losses.
00:14Norhana Adams' plea was made before Judge Rohatul Akhmar Abdullah on Friday.
00:19Based on the facts of the case, the accused introduced the victim to two women who purportedly
00:25worked at the National Anti-Drug Agency in Malacca.
00:29Norhana later informed him that one of the women was detained for refusing a job transfer
00:34and to secure her release, a certain amount of money needed to be paid.
00:39The accused allegedly convinced the victim to hand over a total of 416,000 ringgit in
00:45stages between September 2023 and June 2024 to help prevent the officer's transfer to
00:52either Sabah or Sarawak.
00:54The charge was framed under Section 420 of the Penal Code, which provides for up to ten
01:00years in prison, whipping and a fine upon conviction.
01:04The court set bail at 15,000 ringgit with one surety.
01:07The accused was also ordered not to interfere with prosecution witnesses and to report to
01:12the nearest police station every month.
