00:00Hello there, this is me Ansh Pandey and you are watching One India English.
00:16After the June 4th shocker which saw the Bharatiya Janta Party falling from the 303 mark to just
00:22240, the recent by-polls in 13 assembly seats across 7 Indian states have delivered yet
00:29another blow to the BJP-led India Alliance with the opposition bloc, securing 10 seats
00:35while the Bharatiya Janta Party has won just 2.
00:39This outcome is being seen as a boost for the opposition ahead of the upcoming assembly
00:44elections.
00:45The Congress Party has performed exceptionally well, winning two seats each in Himachal Pradesh
00:51and in Uttarakhand.
00:53In Himachal Pradesh, they have retained Dehra and Nalagad, but they have lost Hamirpur seat
00:59to the BJP.
01:00Notably, in Dehra, the Chief Minister Sukhinder Singh Sukhu's wife Kamlesh Thakur has won
01:05by a substantial margin.
01:27The by-polls in these seats were necessitated after some independent MLAs joined the BJP,
01:32causing vacancies.
01:33In Uttarakhand, Congress candidates have emerged victorious on both contested seats, Mangalore
01:40and Badrinath.
01:42After the Ayodhya shocker, now the Badrinath seat is also lost by the BJP.
01:46The seat was already vacated when a Congress MLA joined BJP, while the Mangalore by-poll
01:51was held following the death of the BSP MLA.
02:10In Bengal, the Trinidad Congress has made a clean sweep, winning all four seats that
02:15went to polls.
02:17This victory reinforces the party's strong position in the state under CM Amitabh Banerjee's
02:22leadership.
02:24In Punjab, the AAP has also secured a win in the Jalandhar West constituency, defeating
02:29the BJP candidate by a significant margin.
02:33This victory is being considered crucial for the AAP as they look to strengthen their presence
02:38beyond Delhi Now.
03:00In midst of all this, the only good news for the BJP right now is that it has managed to
03:05win the Amarwada seat in Madhya Pradesh, which has ideally been a Congress stronghold.
03:11While an independent candidate has also emerged victorious in Bihar's Rupauli constituency
03:17defeating the JDU and RJD's MISA Bharti.
03:22Even in Tamil Nadu, the DMK has retained the assembly seat with their candidate by winning
03:27with a large margin against the PMK candidate.
03:31After the victories, an almost clean sweep, in many states, the AAP has celebrated this
04:01by winning with a large margin against the PMK candidate in Madhya Pradesh, which has
04:15ideally been a Congress stronghold.
04:50These by-polls are being considered as an important indicator of the political trends,
05:09especially with BJP's performance in the recent general election when they fell short of the
05:15majority on their own.
05:17The results are suggesting a strong show of opposition parties after a very long time,
05:22potentially setting the stage for increased competition in future elections.
05:27The outcome also highlights the diversity in the regional politics, with different parties
05:32now performing well once again in their respective strongholds.
05:36As India moves closer to the next assembly election, which is probably in October of
05:41this year, the results may influence the political strategies and alliances.
05:47The opposition's success will definitely boost their confidence, while the BJP must
05:52have to reassess their approach in the regional politics.
05:56However, it is also important to note here that the by-polls often have a localised factor
06:01and may not reflect the larger national trend, but yes, BJP is jolted and that's a wake-up
06:07call that the base is weakening, it seems.
