00:00Boar's Head has expanded the meat recall it recently issued due to a listeria outbreak.
00:04The USDA's Food Safety and Inspection Service announced Tuesday that the Cold Cut Company
00:09is recalling about 7 million pounds of ready-to-eat meat and poultry products.
00:13This covers all the products produced at Boar's Head's facility in Jarrett, Virginia.
00:17The recalled products are labeled with the establishment number EST-12612 or P-12612,
00:24with sell-by dates from July 29 through October 17.
00:28A full list can be found on the USDA and Boar's Head websites.
00:32According to the USDA's Tuesday announcement,
00:34a multi-state listeria outbreak has caused two deaths and 33 hospitalizations.
00:39This recall is driven by the detection of the outbreak strain in a previously
00:42unopened package of Boar's Head liverwurst. Listeriosis can cause a variety of symptoms,
00:47including fever, pain, and gastrointestinal distress.
00:51It is most dangerous for pregnant women, the elderly, and the immunocompromised.
00:55If any of those categories describe you,
00:57the CDC recommends that you avoid all meats from deli counters unless they're reheated and that
01:01you clean your refrigerator or any other surfaces that may have touched deli meats
01:05to reduce the risk of cross-contamination.
