00:00President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr. recognized the important role of journalists as he led the oath-taking of the newly appointed officials of the Association of Philippine Journalists of the Samahang Plaridel Foundation, Inc.
00:13The president pointed out that members of the media served as a channel for the public to know the latest events in the country.
00:19He added that journalists also play a role in monitoring corrupt activities of government officials.
00:25You likewise help in holding public officers, including myself, accountable for our actions, recognizing our work when we do well, and pointing out shortcomings whenever our work does not measure up to our sworn duties.
00:42At the same time, the president urged the media to partner with the government in helping the public discern what is true and what is not, especially in times when fake news and artificial intelligence are prevalent.
00:54I also trust that you will continue upholding the integrity of your profession by ensuring that practitioners live up to the highest ethical and professional standards of journalism.
01:05Let your commitment to responsible, ethical, and fair reporting be the guide in inspiring your colleagues and aspiring journalists to follow your footsteps in the fourth estate.
01:18He also said the government continues to take steps and efforts to promote a safe environment and the welfare of media practitioners through the Presidential Task Force on Media Security.
01:27We will also foster an environment where members of the media can continue to freely practice their profession in a manner that is fruitful, rewarding, and meaningful.
01:39Let us continue to work together in nurturing a truly free and safe environment for all media personnel towards the Bagong Pilipinas that we dream of in the years ahead.
