00:00All right now some football coverage. It was our lead story in seven in seven the ncaa
00:06handing out a discipline a four-year show cause order to jim harbaugh for
00:12unethical conduct based on multiple recruiting violations
00:16During a covid dead period and not cooperating with investigators
00:21In misleading the investigation for the ncaa you might be thinking to yourself
00:27Wait, jim harbaugh doesn't coach at michigan anymore
00:30What does it matter if the governing body of collegiate athletics disciplines him and you would be?
00:36Correct a four-year show cause for jim harbaugh doesn't really matter for the guy
00:40Making 16 million dollars per year as the head coach of the los angeles chargers in the national football league
00:47I'll tell you one thing though like the ncaa really hasn't you know
00:51Meshed well over the past 20 years with some of the outcomes that they come up with because you take a look at you know
00:55Reggie bush who was obviously cheating but they take away his heisman after he left and then take away the wins and say technically
01:02You don't win any national championships, but he was a singular player on that team if your coach is doing damage
01:08Why does he the only one getting the penalty like I could see with usc like hey, reggie
01:11You know what?
01:12We're gonna take away just your individual accolades and the heisman
01:16But we're gonna leave all the wins on the field for usc and also the national championships
01:19Why is that not done here same thing when you take a look at louisville like they won a national championship under patino
01:24Patino did wrong recruiting violations. They stripped that team of wins and also the national championship
01:30So theoretically, why is michigan not being stripped of a national championship and wins then am I missing something here?
01:36I don't know. We don't know what the notice of allegation is going to be for the sign stealing operation oftentimes
01:44recruiting violations
01:45Even with the unethical conduct that jim harbaugh has presented to the ncaa as a governing body do not result in the vacation
01:54Of wins in a national title, but i'm not entirely sure again
01:57This is not related in essence to the sign stealing operation and the potential notice of allegation that we expect
02:05To come down in the next few days to the michigan football program
02:09But it is clear the ncaa looks at michigan
02:13As a bad actor in terms of how they deal with ncaa violations
02:18and regulations as a football
02:22Program if jim harbaugh were to return to college football by 2028
02:27We would be shocked but if he does he would be suspended
02:31For a full season for whatever program hires him again
02:36He signed a five-year 16 million dollar per year average deal with the chargers to become the head coach in los angeles
02:44This is outside of the sign stealing operation
02:48Elsewhere drs at seattle seahawks practice yesterday an ugly scene multiple fights breaking out including dk
02:55Metcalf star wide receiver for the hawks taking off his helmet and swinging it at his teammate cornerback trey brown
03:03We've seen joint practice fights throughout this week. You don't really want it to be that visceral and that internal
03:10in your own organization
03:12Yeah, take care of yourselves out there. That's the name of this look
03:14You're going to come to fights and that blows but you don't want to take that first of all
03:17What are you taking the helmet off for keep the helmet off? That's your best protection and he's a giant wide receiver
03:23I'm sure he can swing around a couple dbs at a chance
03:25but also we are talking about these fights love to see the malik neighbors one like
03:29Haha, i'm gonna hit you in the head and then get the brakes beat off you three seconds later
03:33That's a tough look for us wide receivers and can't be doing that. Stop
03:37Our two decks welcome to out i'm just kidding
03:40It's the final segment of our opening hour live right here on the early line
03:45I was a little bit too hasty to say it was our two
03:49We still have five more minutes of our opening hour anything you would like to add donny right side
03:55You know sometimes though like the show has been flowing really well
03:58And sometimes you don't like to look at the clock you just let the topics flow
04:01I feel now that you felt like it was hour number two already that we might have the longest next two hours that we've ever
04:08Had on this channel. So I think you might have hit the kai box because everybody's been out there
04:12Right, you're at work. You're in the cubicle. You're out on the street like hey
04:15I wonder what time it is or maybe you're like, you know being a construction worker and just fall asleep there
04:19You're waiting to eat your sandwiches by noon. It turns out it's only 10 a.m
04:22I mean it happens all the time that yeah streets don't watch the clock have some fun. Let's get after it
04:28Yeah tough stuff for us, but I think with the football conversation
04:32We are set to have here at least to end out the opening hour and extend it into the start of hour two
04:38It should fly by because football is fun and time flies when you are having exactly that two games tonight
04:47That was good, huh two games tonight to officially kick off week
04:50Number one in full of the national football league
04:54Pre-season the giants in the lions. We'll talk about that to start our number two
05:00The patriots and the panthers tonight at gillette stadium in foxborough both games scheduled to kick at around 7 p.m
05:07Eastern time so it's not like one is the night cap and one starts earlier pretty much kicking off
05:14Simultaneously, but it begins new eras for both franchises gerard mayo takes the reins
05:20In foxborough dave canales the new head man in charlotte for the carolina panthers
05:25Of course
05:25We learned earlier this week that bryce young would not play in this pre-season opener for carolina against new england
05:32It moved the line drastically. It was a four and a half point spread in favor of the pats
05:37Then it's now up to nearly a touchdown in favor of the patriots a six and a half point number in favor
05:44Of new england the over understands at 33
05:48And a half don't believe we'll see the veteran jacoby brissette tonight for new england
05:52But maybe we will I would expect to see a lot of rookie quarterback focus on drake may
05:58And the guy they took on day three out of tennessee with a rocket arm joe milton as well
06:03Yeah, it should be fun to watch it play out and also sometimes we have new regimes which technically have back-to-back new regimes here in
06:09This game you want to put that footing out there by getting wins and now granted it still is a pre-season game
06:15but it does matter and sort of like
06:16Building that confidence inside your room because if you go in and say oh this game doesn't matter you get beat 26 to 7
06:22It's not a great start even though again, I preface this by it's pre-season
06:26You still want to get off on that right foot and look like you are running a competent franchise your first time around
06:31We'll see if that happens, but I don't know six and a half
06:33Like what's the reason for that going up because young is not going to play?
06:36I mean, you're basically the battle the backups you're in a game. That's probably going to get around 30 points total
06:41I probably just mean on taking the points. Is that a betting option? Is that a handicap?
06:45No, not necessarily
06:46But I don't know why that line would have jumps up so big as if it's like hey, by the way
06:49Tom brady was going to play a half and now he's not in new england. Come on now
06:52Who are they actually playing at this point?
06:55Yeah, it's a good point. I would say drs in terms of the overall roster competition. Also the backup in carolina
07:01I believe at last check is andy dalton who's got some experience there at the quarterback spot
07:07We expect to see some of the starters for new england on the defensive side of the football
07:11Where they have invested in terms of deals and contract extensions this offseason kyle dugger jabril peppers
07:18Under gerard maya who of course was a player under bill belichick in new england
07:24Was a defensive assistant the fast past few years for the patriots under belichick
07:29As well carolina last year 17 games all 17 as an underdog 4 11 and 2
07:37Against the spread just 2 and 15
07:40Straight up the pats only booked as a favorite five times last year in regular season action one and four
07:47Against the spread the panthers by the way
07:50With bryce young as a rookie winless last year in the preseason
07:54Oh and three here is the outlook for two teams
07:58We expect to be near the bottom of the barrel this year in the national football league
08:02The panthers a higher win total five and a half and the over has the juice
08:06The pats the lowest win total in all the national football league
08:10Four and a half is the number just four wins for new england last year in year number
08:1624 the 24th and final under bill belichick the last time prior to 2023 drs with four wins
08:24Or less a two-win football team way back in 1992
08:29Yeah, it's pretty wild when you take a look at bill belichick
08:31Like if you're going to take over for a legend chances are he probably leaves you with a pretty good deck here to try
08:35To get after it you take a look at pittsburgh when mike tomlin took over for bill coward
08:39That was a really good franchise and a really good football team sort of handing off that baton
08:43But now you're taking a look at gerard mayo like honestly
08:46Unless he's going to be around for four to five years to see it through the rebuild when you know you get fired quickly
08:51If that team doesn't respond he's in such a tough spot up there in new england
08:56Now it's our number two up next on the early line
08:59Welcome to our number two live right here on this thursday on the early line on sports grid. He is donny right side
09:06I am ben stevens
09:08It is a thursday that features not one but two
09:12nfl pre-season games to fully kick off week number one of the national football league
09:18Postseason a doubleheader on a thursday. It feels like football in new england
09:24It's the patriots playing host to the panthers the pats a six and a half point favorite with a total of 33
09:31And a hook and it's been feisty at joint practices this week in new jersey between the new york giants
09:38And the detroit lions the g-man a three and a half point favorite tonight in met life with a total of 34 and a half
09:45Against the detroit lions plenty to get to here in our number two
09:49We'll go all around the national football league with many nfl conversations and some more olympic coverage in this second hour as well
09:57Yeah, what is nice too? You take a look at tonight
09:59You got a doubleheader in the nfl for the preseason and you got a three-pack there on a friday night a full slate there
10:03On the saturday even some games on a sunday
10:06So you do have an action-packed weekend where it's not all just condensed into one night here
10:10So you like to sort of play it out and also i'm still interested to see
10:13We're gonna get more and more looks at this new on
10:16Sidekick slash kickoff rule that you're going to be putting in place
10:19So i'm going to be watching tonight tuned in here
10:21Both games at seven o'clock might be dipping in might be watching a little major league baseball
10:25So good night set ahead for us tonight. No doubt about it
10:29Yeah, absolutely. So a pretty good thursday in mlb as a marquee matchup continues
10:35With arizona and philadelphia for a four game set extending through the weekend out in the desert drs
10:42Let's start with the one of two games that we have tonight on a thursday an nfl preseason
10:49Action, but these two teams that being the detroit lions and the new york giants pretty familiar with one another multiple joint practices this week
10:57at giants camp, but things have been anything but
11:01Friendly, we have seen multiple joint practice fights between these two sides
11:05You mentioned malik neighbors a couple of days ago goes back and slaps somebody and kirby joseph
11:11Comes right up to his face and starts to get involved daniel jones
11:15Danny times getting in the middle of a couple of these scuffles throughout this week of joint practices as well
11:21Which has led to a fighting fine on behalf of the national football league both detroit and new york as organizations
11:29find
11:31$200,000 because of the joint practice fights because the nfl sent out a memo earlier this month
11:36Trying to make sure there would not be any practice fights
11:39And conduct unprofessional to the national football league
11:44There are always going to be fights in these joint practices because why you can get away with it and you say well
11:49Why does it happen now not in the games because you try that in a game?
11:52You're not playing for four weeks
11:53Imagine if the nfl had the same stringent requirements by going now granted sometimes when you're just practicing yourself
11:59You're going to get fights there you separate just teammates there
12:01But let's just say the nfl the same requirements for a joint scrimmage. He goes. All right, we got the tapes out there
12:06Oh, you threw two punches. Yeah, you're going to miss the first two games of the regular season
12:09Nobody would fight at that point, but I also mind it
12:12You just don't want to make a mockery of it because you are going to have
12:15Multiple times where offensive linemen and 90 degree temperatures going against defensive linemen things get chippy, you know
12:21You're not calling holding penalties. I'm trying to get to the quarterback. You're holding me
12:24There's a late hit or two on this side things are always going to happen
12:27But what the nfl doesn't want is the mockery of it all like football is not ingrained like hey hockey
12:32They're going to fight. Well, that's ingrained in the sport here
12:34It's not ingrained in football and i'm sure the nfl does get a little bit embarrassed when it comes out us the fans
12:39We love to watch it on the day-to-day basis like hey, look at this two teams getting chippy
12:43Let's see what actually happens here, but the nfl doesn't want that
12:45But again, they're not going to come into the practice and say two game suspension during the regular season
12:50They just dole out the fines with the nfl teams play and they move on and you always hear it on a day-to-day basis
12:55The coaches aren't saying let's get out here and start some scrums like look
12:59Treat the other guy with respect here. If it gets chippy, you always want your teammates back. They understand that
13:04We just don't want to have guys taking off their helmets and swinging on people with them
13:08Yeah, absolutely. So right you can get intense. You can have that passion
13:13It's the first time in a joint practice that you see somebody else
13:17That is not on your team or in your locker room throughout the duration
13:21Of training camp we gave our thoughts on if joint practices are tiring
13:26Excuse me
13:26If joint practice fights are tired or if they're a little bit out of date at this moment
13:32Both you and I drs kind of believe that it's just part of what training camp is at these joint practices
13:38And there is not the necessary
13:41Consequence to it that you would have for smacking somebody in the face during an actual nfl regular season game a 15-yard penalty
13:48and probably
13:49Getting a bunch, uh punched out of the game as well
13:53So I would just say that when it comes to this
13:55Yes, there is the consequence of that penalty and the fine
13:59Of financial value to your franchise, but nothing these owners cannot front
14:05however
14:05You can't see that hostility carry over tonight
14:09Into the preseason because then there are the yellow laundry that will be featured on the field
14:14It's a three and a half point number in favor of the new york giants 34 and a half is the total this
14:21Within the last hour from jordan rannon
14:23That's how you pronounce his last name right on whatever it is
14:25The giants espn nfl reporter that many of the starters daniel jones
14:30Even the rookie malik neighbors not expected to play tonight. We know jerry golf is not going to play tonight for detroit
14:38So a lot of backups in this game between the g-men and the lions
14:42Yeah, I never really have true handicaps on these games
14:44I understand that people just looking at the quarterback depth charts and who's supposed to play probably the best way to figure it out
14:49But it's just hard like again 33 and a half 34 and a half totals three and a half you basically for me
14:55Hey donny, who's gonna take I don't know who's playing just give me the points at this point
14:58So that's the way I would lean towards it
15:00I am interested just to see some of these guys on the field but more particular as I said
15:04How it plays out there with the special teams but outside of that week number one the preseason
15:09Fun just to watch your team out there even though nobody is there week number two
15:13Maybe you get a little bit of a sneak peek, but just dating back 15 20 years in the nfl
15:17You'd really take the time here even we're talking about like fantasy drafts like hey
15:21Let me get a look at this one guy's gonna get probably 25 to 30 carries in the preseason. That's no longer the case
15:26It's just a crap shoot
15:27You're reading beat beat writers reports on a day-to-day practice
15:30Basis as opposed to looking at games anymore at this point because you don't really get out and also from a coach's perspective
15:36Ben, they tell you right to your face
15:37We get way more out of these joint scrimmages than we ever get for the preseason games themselves
15:43And it's part of one of the reasons the joint practices leading up to a preseason game have that intensity
15:49It's the only time you see ones versus ones
15:51We saw a lot of clips at a joint practice of panay sewell
15:54The second highest paid o lineman in the national football league now behind tristan worse and I think christian derrissaw
16:01So maybe even the third highest paid guy, but got that extension early this offseason from brad holmes in the motor city
16:08Manhandling cave-on thibodeau of the new york giants who talked about it afterwards saying the only thing i'm scared of is those practice images
16:16of panay sewell
16:18Absolutely dominating us, but we're probably not going to see
16:21Sewell or thibodeau tonight in that matchup between the new york giants and the detroit lions
16:26So it's an opportunity for a coaching mentality, you know, dan campbell regardless of who is out
16:31There is going to bring that emotion and fire even to a preseason game the lions two and one last preseason the giants
16:38one and two
16:39But it's also a glimpse at these organizations as they get ready for a new year in the expectation
16:45That follows the lions win total ten and a half double digit victories expected the over has the juice
16:51They are the favorites to win the nsc north for a second consecutive year
16:55That would be more divisional titles in the past two years
16:58Two the lions had in the last 30
17:02Zero around the national football league
17:05Yeah, things are looking up in detroit. It's a really good ball club here
17:07They paid their guys but the most important thing sometimes is not the actual players on the field you kept which I think is maybe
17:13The best individual offensive coordinator in the nfl on your sideline and ben johnson that camaraderie is going to go a long way this season
17:20We're expecting big things from the lines
17:22But having said that too you're looking at the lions where typically in the past like hey
17:26I wonder if the lions can do good here
17:27They come now the lions are that team that nobody's going to be getting taken advantage of like oh
17:32I didn't think the lions would be that good when we played them at this point bullseye on the line
17:35See how they handle it this season, but i'm still expecting big things. Everything is there in place to have another good season
17:42Yeah, yeah, absolutely. So a historic campaign in 2023 first divisional crown in three decades first playoff win
17:50An nfc championship game appearance in 32 years
17:54The giants a different set of expectation as donnie and I discussed earlier this week
17:59What exactly is the future of daniel jones in this organization?
18:03What exactly is the franchise's future with the head coach brian dayball and joe shane despite winning a playoff game just two
18:11Years ago more around the nfl and training camp up next live right here on the early line on this thursday
18:18A thursday that features a doubleheader of nfl pre-season action two games to fully kick off week
18:24Number one of the pre-season around the national football league and shout out to sports grid always doing
18:30Great great work
18:32You can look at a list that sports grid has go to sports grid on twitter of the top eight worst active nfl head coaches
18:40Against the number in pre-season games, of course varying levels of a sample size
18:45But one of the guys featured tonight brian dayball who was oh and six
18:50Against the number in his two pre-seasons now as the head man
18:54Of the new york giants, of course the gman a three and a half point favorite against the detroit lions tonight
19:00So now let's take a look at the national football league drs
19:03Beyond the pre-season for the entirety of the regular season in a trend that has been long standing
19:10Around the nfl for the better part of the last two decades a team that finishes dead last in a division
19:17Looking to win the division the year
19:20Following here are the teams that finished in last in the afc who will go worst?
19:26To first now all four teams in the afc north finished with a winning record
19:30So the bangles technically at nine and eight did finish in last second best price to win the afc north this year with the expectation
19:38Of a fully healthy joe burrow the chargers in last last year in the afc west the titans finishing in the cellar of the afc
19:45South and the patriots just 4 and 13
19:49But still the longest price to win the afc east this year out of that group donny
19:54I would think the bangles get your eye
19:57But who do you think has the best chance to go worst to first from last season to this year in 2024?
20:04Out of those it's got to be the bangles and also forget about you're talking about joe burrow
20:07Let's just say if he's healthy one of the better quarterbacks in the nfl
20:11That should help obviously, but you are taking a look at regime changes on most of these franchises. The bangles don't have regime change
20:17Yes, they lost their offensive coordinator, but still the head coach is there the quarterback is there the wide receivers technically are still there
20:23But the chargers, what do they do new head coach the titans? What do they do new head coach patriots?
20:28What do they do ben new head coach as well?
20:30It takes some time typically you don't hit the ground running and even in a case with the chargers 5 and 12 last year
20:36We've always said like boy
20:37I wonder if they can just get a competent coach that when everything around them is swirling and going bad
20:43He can calm the waters here and get them to win football games and get them to sustain late
20:47You figure the chargers have that but they didn't keep the same football team
20:50I wanted to see the chargers come into the season with the exact carbon copy roster
20:54They had last year with just a competent coach like we know hardball will be so that makes it a little bit tougher and also
20:59Yes, you're not just going. Hey, let's win this division because finally patrick holmes and andy reid retired in the same season
21:05You still have to go up against the chiefs
21:06That's going to be hard enough the titans a lot of question marks like what they did in the offseason hopkins injury
21:12Not going to help them but you're banking on will levis and a brand new coach winning that division
21:16That's going to be tough the patriots. We don't have to say anything more the least talented franchise in the nfl by a wide margin
21:23They're not winning anything in the in the east here
21:26So if i'm looking at the bangles perspective, even though me, you know
21:29I'm, not high on the bangles of this list by far
21:31It's the bangles with the best chance to go from worst to first for me
21:35It is the simple answer. It is the easy answer. It is the correct answer based on trends 19
21:42Of the last 21 nfl seasons a team has finished worst
21:46In a division and makes their way all the way up to first
21:50That's why we highlight these things here for you on this thursday on the early line for new england a
21:5624 to 1 price on the patriots to win the afc east division
22:00It is the longest price of any team in any of the eight divisions around the national football league
22:06I think tennessee will be right around that six to seven win margin in a compelling
22:11Afc south which was the division a year ago
22:15In fact has been the division each of the past two years the jaguars from worst in 2021 to divisional champion
22:222022 the texans worst in 2022 to division
22:27divisional title winner in
22:292023 the chiefs have won the afc west eight consecutive years
22:33The bolts do have the second best price for kansas city
22:36Strongest number of any team to win any of the eight divisions around the nfl at minus 230
22:41Here's what i'll say about the chargers. They're not going to finish in dead last in the afc west this year
22:46But they're not going to unseat the chiefs atop the afc west as of right now
22:52It's the bangles not only because of the trend
22:55But if joe burrow is healthy and he has played 16 of 17 games to fully or almost fully healthy
23:02Seasons for the bangles in his four-year nfl career in those two seasons
23:06He has played at least 16 games in the regular season for cincy. They have won the division
23:12They have played at least in the afc title game. And of course in 2021, they made it all the way to super bowl
23:1956 if joe burrow plays 15 plus games my pick to win the division
23:24Is the bangles thus it would make them my pick to be the team to go from worst to first within the afc
23:31That office could cook it certainly can but also still a lot of things we're still waiting on as we have
23:37What august the 8th we're going to start let you say in roughly one month
23:40A lot of things that decipher whether or not joe burrow truly is healthy and when he gets that game contact
23:45We'll find out because even he's saying look that's a tough off season where I can't really throw the football all that much now
23:50We're not making any excuses for burrow if he's healthy game number one
23:53We expect big things right out of the gate
23:55But also where does jamar chase factor into all of this?
23:58Is he going to even practice throughout the entirety of this offseason, which is amazing again?
24:02That's still to this point, but it is simple to say. Hey
24:05Look, the bangles is a franchise never got no
24:07We saw them in the super bowl just a few short years ago out there in los angeles
24:10The pedigree is if joe burrow is heated up and he's cooking and jamar chase and de hagan's are happy and healthy on the field
24:16They are going to do some damage
24:17I guess you could say the wild card in this whole bunch probably is the chargers because you never want to
24:22Underestimate a jim harbaugh team
24:24I just don't know if they have the talent to go up against a team like the kansas city cheese and unseat them
24:28The one thing we are expecting out of the chargers is a competent franchise here
24:32Not getting out coached or collapsing on a week-to-week basis when it really matters
24:38Yeah, absolutely. So that's plagued the chargers for a very very long time prior to brandon staley before anthony
24:45Lynn, it's kind of been the chargers curse in san diego and now of course
24:50Los angeles jim harbaugh despite what you might think of him despite what the ncaa
24:55Says about him is a program and organization
24:59Builder at every level he has ever coached fcs football at the university of san diego fbs football at
25:07Stanford a dormant program in the pack 10 then pack 12 and of course at michigan
25:13He wins he improves and he does so right away
25:17Take a look at his nfl coaching record with the san francisco
25:2149ers the chargers win total is eight and a half the over has the juice
25:25I think it is a very fair and spot on win total this year for
25:29La we had the conversation of worst to first in the afc same story in the nfc up next
25:36Worst to first in the afc now in the nfc. There was a clear answer in the afc
25:41It's the cincinnati bangles second best price in the afc north without joe burrow for a good majority of last year
25:49The bangles still finished with a winning record at nine and eight but in the good afc north
25:53That was dead last with joe burrow fully healthy in two of his four nfl seasons
25:58The bangles have won the divisional crown each of those two years that seemed to be the obvious answer
26:03From donny and my assessment now we go to the nfc where i'm not sure there's as clear of an answer
26:12Here's the teams that finished in either dead last or a tie for last which I guess is also a tie for third
26:18But we'll save that conversation for another time in the nfc north
26:21Both the bears and the vikings were seven and ten in the bottom of the division
26:26The panthers had the worst record in the national football league in 2023
26:302 and 15 in the nfc south the commanders just 4 and 13 in the nfc east the cardinals just 4 and 13
26:37In the nfc west but booked as an underdog in all 17 games
26:41Arizona was 9 and 8 against the number drs for the teams that finished last last year in the nfc
26:48Who has the best chance of finishing first this year around the conference?
26:53It's kind of tough the way you again because we had really an easy out with the bangles because that's a legitimate super bowl
26:59Contender masquerading with a lot of injuries last year not performing in a very tough division
27:03Where they have a chance to actually win it this year
27:06But you take a look at the nfc and you say which one of these teams could possibly do it
27:09If you're looking on banking on the cardinals, yes, it is going to help
27:12They have kyler murray back from week one. He's not working his way back from a knee injury
27:16He should be 100 to start the season
27:18You got an epic town at wide receiver to start but you are still in a division
27:22Which quality football teams like the rams the seattle seahawks would be okay
27:25And then certainly maybe the favorites overall would be the san francisco 49ers. Let's just say trent williams comes back and also
27:32Devo samuels out there with brandon ayuk and that offense is complete. We'll see how that is
27:36So unless you're banking on well, I think they can do good things and I hope like the 49ers get injured
27:40That's not a way to do it. We're not going to play it out that way
27:43I don't think the cardinals have a big chance here if we're all looking at the commanders last year 4 and 13 rookie quarterback
27:48Yes, it's hard to win a division
27:50Dallas has a lot of talent philadelphia has a lot of talent first year regime for dan quinn in washington
27:55We'll see how that one plays out. I don't really think they have a legit legitimate chance
27:58Let's go to chicago and minnesota a lot of talent on both of those football teams
28:02But also you're dealing with upswing teams in the detroit lions and also when you take a look at the green bay packers
28:08We expect them to be the top dogs of that division. But again, no slaps
28:11That's a very competitive division all the way through. I don't know if I pick them hear me out on this
28:16I do think the panthers are not going to have a good season
28:19But sometimes you have to take a step out here and say new head coach here
28:23Maybe bryce young appears to be that quarterback
28:25We thought he was heisman trophy winner from alabama and plays good football because quite frankly
28:30Am I real excited about the new orleans saints?
28:32No, the tampa bay buccaneers more fluke than anything for me in a terrible division last year
28:37And yes, you have the atlanta falcons who I do think win that division with kirk cousins
28:41But not a dominant program by any stretch
28:44Why can't the panthers be somewhat competitive this season and you might say you're crazy
28:48You can't do it
28:49But we have to make a decision on can any one of these have a slight path to it?
28:53And if i'm looking at maybe the deepest run
28:56Could it be the panthers just because I don't think that division is all that good top to bottom then
29:01And donnie, I think that's a very fair argument to make because when you look at the division as a whole the last few years
29:09Tom brady and the buccaneers won the division in 2022
29:12Were they losing record baker mayfield and the buccaneers won the divisional crown for a third consecutive year?
29:18At nine and eight the saints were also nine and eight and the other two teams the falcons and of course the panthers
29:24Below 500 now atlanta this year has sky-high optimism and expectation
29:30With kirk cousins there are an odds-on favorite the win total is nine and a half
29:34The over has the juice atlanta expected to be a double-digit win team
29:38I don't think carolina is going to sniff more than six wins
29:41But five and a half is the win total for the panthers on that list technically five teams were shown
29:48Four of the five a ten to one price or longer to win a division only the bears a shorter number
29:54I'll get to chicago in a moment three of those five prices the longest in a division
30:01minnesota
30:02arizona
30:03In carolina, washington at ten to one not the longest price in the nfc east
30:09That's the new york giants, but still to get past either the cowboys or the eagles seems insurmountable for washington
30:16It's why my decision would be the bears now. I don't believe
30:21Chicago is going to win the nfc north
30:23But if all the odds plus 330 to win the division a relatively short price third out of four
30:29In that division the bears have an eight and a half win total the over has the juice expected to be a winning team
30:36Could that keep them in contention for a good part of the nfl regular season?
30:41Perhaps that's why I would go with chicago
30:44Yeah, no it does make some sense and certainly there is a high bar to clear here because you're looking at that
30:49Team yet last year from the texans trying to equate it to the bears. It's lightning in a bottle. We'll find out
30:55We shall see
