00:00How safe is air travel really? With the last couple of years of Boeing bumbles,
00:04including a door falling off one of their planes mid-flight, you might be worried. However,
00:08according to a new study, it's not only pretty safe, but it's actually getting even safer.
00:13The report found that deaths from air travel globally fell from one per 7.9 million travelers
00:18between 2008 and 2017 to one per every 13.7 million travelers between 2018 and 2022.
00:26That's closing in on half the fatalities over the previous period.
00:29MIT professor and co-author of the study Arnold Barnett said about the findings that aviation
00:34safety continues to get better and that your chances of dying after boarding a plane continues
00:39to go down by a factor of two every decade. That's pretty reassuring. In fact, back in the 60s and
00:4470s when air travel was becoming more common, stepping foot on a plane was a dangerous endeavor.
00:50Back then, air travel deaths were one per just 350,000. Still, Barnett says that vigilance
00:55is key. And just because incidents are down doesn't mean we should drop our guard.
