00:13I found a mountain of waste where my house once stood.
00:16I felt confused and overwhelmed.
00:19My friends, my neighbours.
00:21There must be many people buried under the waste
00:24because this was a highly populated neighbourhood.
00:30Rescue workers have to dig through heaps of trash looking for victims.
00:36And the number of dead is expected to rise.
00:40And that's why you see so many people are still waiting to see if they are retrieved.
00:46So we are still here and we still explain what it was.
00:53What you see behind me started as a very deep pit
00:57over 200 feet below the surface.
01:01Over the years it has turned into a mountain of waste.

01:11Managed by the KCCA, the Kampala City Authority,
01:15the Chitezi landfill is located right in the middle of a residential area
01:20with many houses built on its boundaries.
01:24Residents now want it relocated.
01:26Garbage should stop being dumped in Chitezi.
01:31That is the only thing we can do.
01:33We are requesting the government and the KCCA, of course, to stop.
01:39The authorities say that more than 100 families have been displaced.
01:44Some victims are now housed in temporary shelters.
