Filipino Olympians get P2-M each from gov't

The grand heroes' welcome for the 2024 Filipino Olympians, who arrived home from Paris on Tuesday night, has begun.  Aside from the warm cheers from the airport and from the Marcoses, the Olympians were also welcomed with a P2-million cash incentive, and P500,000 for their coaching staff.  The P1-million cash incentive from the Philippine Amusement and Gaming Corporation (Pagcor) will be matched by the Office of the President, he said, bringing the cash incentive for every Olympian to P2 million.  In his speech at the dinner reception for the Olympians, President Marcos shared that he has been contemplating on what other help the government can give to the Olympians, knowing the sacrifices they made throughout their Olympic journey. 00:07All of our athletes, let's give them, as long as they win the Olympics,

00:11let's give them 1 million.

00:20The Office of the President will match what you will give,

00:24for at least 2 million pesos.

00:28Aside from that, because of our recognition of all the help,

00:34the coaching staff, we will also give half a million pesos.

00:46I will take a deep breath, because it's just a small amount.

00:50And I know that 1 million pesos, for example,

00:55if you compare it to your sacrifice,

01:05if you compare it, it's just a small amount.

01:08But for now, this is what we will do.

01:10Now, as I said, we have been given a lot of material things.

01:16What I would like to now do, is to ask our athletes, our coaches,

01:23all our sports organizations.

01:28Instead of giving cash, well, if you need more cash, we'll find some more.

01:34But, I think more importantly,

01:37I want to be part of the development of sports in the Philippines.
