00:00Thank you!
00:30We are here at the Roman Colosseum, one of the most important entertainment venues of antiquity.
00:53It is an impressive feat of engineering that was built by the Romans to entertain their people.
00:58This place had the ability to be filled with water to a certain level so that naval battles could be staged.
01:06People really came here for a moment of leisure.
01:11We can see from history that one of the main attractions here was the gladiatorial combat,
01:17who fought each other, most often to the death.
01:22These were people who achieved freedom through this.
01:25They also fought wild animals, and this was the great entertainment of the Romans.
01:32There is a misconception that the Colosseum is where Christians were martyred.
01:38However, this is a misconception.
01:41This was a place, we could say, the ancestor of all modern stadiums.
01:45People really came here for a moment of leisure.
01:50However, this moment of leisure was not exactly what we would call healthy.
01:56People came here to watch the gladiatorial combat.
02:00People were murdered here, they killed each other.
02:05It was a fight to the death that was being established.
02:07At the end of the fight, when one of the gladiators was already seriously wounded or his opponent had him completely defeated,
02:17He turned towards the stands to see if people wanted this person to die or live.
02:23However, the majority were calling for death.
02:26This made them, let's say, accomplices.
02:29He was creating this murderous consciousness.
02:31It was a way to have fun, a way to have fun that destroyed people's conscience.
02:38That is why Christians encouraged those who wanted to begin the Christian life
02:44to completely distance themselves from this type of show.
02:48Shows that ultimately only degraded human life.
02:53It was a condition practically without which one could not access Christianity.
02:58A person who wanted to be a Christian should not be present at these kinds of shows.
03:03because all it was doing was creating a destructive consciousness
03:08which is obviously reflected in society afterwards.
03:13Today, who commits the murders, who carries out all these things that the Romans saw in the Colosseum?
03:19It's through video games.
03:21Those who play these types of games end up killing these characters who are actually fictional.
03:29but they are creating a murderous mentality in people's minds, an unscrupulous mentality.
03:39So little by little, as Christianity reached Rome,
03:43The Christians gradually moved away from these places.
03:46It was an almost indispensable condition for anyone who wished to become a Christian
03:52I wouldn't attend these kinds of shows, I wouldn't go to these kinds of places
03:56where all they did was shout, fill themselves with hatred, fill themselves with blood
04:02of all those who eventually died.
04:04They were not people who were forced to die, they were people who were fighting.
04:07That was the way to entertain people.
04:11Christians gradually distanced themselves from these types of spectacles.
04:15And it is important that Christians of our time also do so today.
04:20They should distance themselves from all shows that are not appropriate for them.
04:24Today we see that even in games people don't respect each other, they use bad language,
04:29Too much alcohol is consumed.
04:31There are even some shows, if not identical, very similar to these that we can have at the Colosseum.
04:38In stadiums, many times, although we don't ask for the death of the opponent,
04:44Tempers flare so much that one ends up going out to fight.
04:49There are these big fights that happen between the fan groups and all that, instead of being a moment
04:54What started as a place of fun and recreation ends up being a place where people destroy themselves.
05:01We, the Christians of the modern century, of this 21st century, must change our society.
05:06in the same way that the Christians of the first centuries did.
05:10That's why it's important today that we are very careful with these types of video games
05:14and from all the places we go to see shows.
05:18We must take care that they are really places, healthy shows,
05:22that the video games played at home are truly engaging,
05:26that are healthy, that allow us to grow, to have fun.
05:29Fun isn't bad. Fun becomes bad when it's used as a tool.
05:35to destroy the lives of others or our own lives,
05:39creating these kinds of suicidal, murderous, sick mentalities,
05:44which then cause so much harm to families and society in general.
05:50We Christians of the 21st century must once again set an example.
05:54Just like the Christians in the first four centuries of the church
05:57They gradually became a powerful instrument for societal change,
06:03ultimately putting pressure on the government,
06:05They gradually pushed themselves away from these kinds of entertainment.
06:09Likewise, we today also have to change our places of entertainment.
06:14Going to football matches, going to baseball games, going to all these kinds of places,
06:17Well, it can be a good place to have fun, to spend some leisure time,
06:21as long as that place does not become a place that destroys our life and our family.
06:27Let us, the Christians of the 21st century, be an instrument for the transformation of our world.
06:51Thank you!
06:52Thank you!
