00:00Hi, my name is Yek Siu Hao. People usually call me Siu Hao and I'm currently a Shell scholar.
00:18I'm from Bintulu, Sarawak where I grew up with my lovely family of four including my
00:23dad who is an engineer and my early inspiration I could say I took SPM in SMK Bintulu and I'm
00:28currently taking my second year of A-Levels at Kolei Chia San Yuyen. I started joining
00:33Shell and Explorers program when I was 14 and I've participated in it for about three
00:38years. The journey started when my seniors are wearing a really cool t-shirts and
00:42presenting their interesting ideas for the Shell and Explorers school level. I'm
00:47really eager to participate in it. A few months later my dream come true I was
00:51part of this program and I would say that it's one of the best decisions that I've
00:54made. Throughout the Shell and Explorers program I've came up with a lot of
00:58interesting ideas that I believe could help to solve with real-world issues.
01:02During my first year in the program my team and I we created a recycling app to
01:07encourage the users to use recycling bags and in a second year my team and I
01:11we invented a smart dustbin to specifically to collect disposable face
01:16masks due to the COVID-19 pandemic. But the project that I remember the most is
01:20the one that we created in third year where we created a smart parking system and
01:24an app to help the drivers to find a parking seat easier and faster. Initially
01:30our first idea wasn't creating this project but one day when my mom and I
01:34were trying to find a parking seat in an indoor parking lot at my hometown my mom
01:38started to complain like how hard it is to find a parking seat today and I was
01:43like wait this could be a really good idea and I immediately sent a text message
01:48inside our team's group chat and my teammates say yes that's a really good idea
01:52and that's what their parents are facing as well. So we immediately change our
01:56idea and we are really happy to work with an idea that's really close to us.
02:02My name is Siti Nazila Raihan Binti Utman. Currently I'm teaching at SMK Aminuddin Baki, Kuala Lumpur and I have been 12 years in teaching service
02:09My name is Siti Nazila Raihan Binti Utman. Currently I'm teaching at SMK Aminuddin Baki, Kuala Lumpur and I have been 12 years in teaching service
02:24and for the STEM innovation it has been it has been eight years experience for me.
02:32My school is the pioneer for the program. This program it is a very long journey. So first for the teachers this will be upgrade your professional career.
02:45Okay because we didn't get it in normal career path because this is the outside program and me I would say that I was upgrade my myself as a teacher far as I expected.
03:08Before this I do not know how to organize the STEM program but because of this program they give me a lot of great experience that I wouldn't get it as a normal teacher.
03:23I'm very lucky person because I got a very strong support from my colleagues and also my school administrator.
03:32So it will be easier for me to go through my journey in as a mentor in Shell and Explorers.
03:41I would say that joining Shell and Explorers was a life-changing experience for me because before joining this I wouldn't as aware of the surroundings around me
03:49what's happening around but afterwards I started to realize the small things and the issues that happening around us and with that I can say that Shell and Explorers was the launchpad for me
03:59to try out the practical side of STEM. As for the challenges I believe one of the biggest is making STEM education relevant and accessible.
04:08Sometimes if STEM education is approached in an abstract way the students will struggle to find a relation between both STEM education and their daily life.
04:16However if it's approached in a hands-on manner then the students can ask them a little bit better about how they can actually apply these skills into their daily lives
04:26and with that the process is much more meaningful and powerful.
04:30Of course the behaviour of the students would be the first challenge for me.
04:35Sometimes when they feel hard in the journey because this programme we have a long journey from the early of the year until the end of the year.
04:45So when they feel hard they tend to drop up from the programme.
04:50So what I do is I will call them, sit with them and then motivate them to continue the journey until their project has been completed.
05:03The experience of being a Shell Scholar has been wonderful and I'm really grateful for Shell Malaysia for providing this opportunity for me to be part of the scholars last year.
05:11And beyond financial support, Shell has also provided me this opportunity to meet a lot of like-minded minds and I'm able to learn a lot from them as well.
05:21And also it has helped me to achieve my dream of wanting to study abroad one day.
05:41And then they have helped me to see them in my dream of a清楚 with the universe.
05:44And then I think of all the哲cio is a bit more of a big, kind of common sense of life.
05:49So what do they mean?
05:52It would have been a holistic approach in the day.
05:55I have had to change all these days.
05:58And I think of all these days when they did this project,
06:00I was in the time that we had to navigate back to the whole day and that sounds like this project and everything
06:03that we have been made to do so.
06:05Then I was in a very beginning thinking that,
