00:08My name is Sainat Rao, you can call me Sai. I'm 19 years old and I'm from Puchong.
00:12So currently, I'm studying A-levels at College Yayasan UEM, which is in Lembah Beringin.
00:17I'm a strong believer in good ideas are only good if people believe in them.
00:22And the way to make people believe in them is through communication.
00:25So throughout Shell and Explorers, I was exposed to pitching my ideas to industry-level judges,
00:32people who are experts in this field.
00:34So you had to learn to be more persuasive and articulate your points well, I would say.
00:40And with that, my skills in communications was also amplified through Shell and Explorers
00:45and was also applied to go to whatever levels that we've done.
00:50Shell and Explorers taught me to be more of a critical thinker.
00:54It taught me how to approach and analyse problems more effectively.
00:59And a lot of the skills that we learned about connecting the dots between different perspectives,
01:06looking at the bigger picture.
01:08These tools allowed me to one, be a better communicator especially in debates
01:13when I represented Malaysia for World Individual Debate and also for Battle of the Digital Ninja.
01:18It taught me on how to be a more considerate leader, someone with empathy,
01:23someone that brings people together no matter their background and their skillset.
01:28The first step into solving a problem, especially in Shell and Explorers, is to be more aware.
01:34And that's what me and my team did.
01:36We started observing problems around us, specifically in our school.
01:39So the main issue that we noticed was the congestion outside of school gates.
01:45After school hours, we'd have cars lined up to fetch their children or transport drivers
01:51with their big vans, just clogging the road.
01:55And after that, we started surveying.
01:58So initially, I asked my own transport driver, is this actually a problem for you?
02:03And would a solution that does this, this, this actually be beneficial?
02:07And he was so excited to hear that we were working on something like that.
02:11And honestly, that was one of the biggest motivations to go forward in doing Sukkot for Shell and Explorers.

02:21I'm a teacher from SMK Vivikananda, Breakfast Kuala Lumpur.
02:24So as a physics and maths teacher, I find Shell and Explorers allow me to realise that
02:31it's okay to do mistakes and it's okay to make students explore because when they explore,
02:38for me, it makes them remember things better and they're really into the problems.
02:46So they know how to solve the problems and become confident when they are able to achieve their goals.
02:52I've been in Shell and Explorers for two years.
02:54So at first, I feel like my students are not really confident in speaking and then tell their ideas,
03:03resenting their ideas.
03:05Now, when they are in the second year, I can see they can independently solving their problems.
03:12So, and they are more confident to say their ideas and to make it work.
03:21Before that, it was like, it's always me and they always depend on me.
03:26And, but some of the students are good.
03:27Like if I just give one steps and they know what to do.
03:32But some students need more work, like need more guidance.
03:36But this year, I can see that same student who need more guidance,
03:40already can work independently.
03:43And some of the students are able to give up ideas, which is, I think, better than what I do
03:50with my students.
03:51I ask them to try.
03:53At least they can complete any simple system or something circuit and stuff.
04:01Even though it's simple, but it is actually the first step that they need to do.
04:06And it's very rewarding when I see them happily completing their first simple system.
04:14And after that, they are becoming more confident and can do more complicated stuff.
04:20This is a good exposure for my students, which is a lot of P40 students.
04:25So, they need this exposure to the outside world.
04:29Because a lot of other students are very advanced.
04:32So, it's very worth it if I expose this to them.
04:36I remember the moment Shell Scholarship was even brought up to me.
04:41It was during the Shell and Explorer event, where someone asked the panelists
04:46on whether they have a higher chance in getting the Shell Scholarship.
04:50And I remember them saying, usually, it's one to two Shell and Explorer individuals
04:56that actually eventually get the scholarship.
04:58And I thought to myself, well, I can't be that one.
05:02No way, I'm that one in a million, right?
05:05And fast forward, I remember one of the...
05:09They had an event in our school.
05:11Shell and Explorer had an event in my school.
05:13And they called me to give a speech to the juniors.
05:16That time, I've already stopped Shell and Explorer.
05:18And one of the employees in charge of Shell and Explorer came up to me and said,
05:24I want to see you as a Shell and Explorer one day.
05:27And I just laughed it off again.
05:29No way, I'm going to be a Shell scholar as much as I wanted it.
05:34And now looking back, it's such a magical thing.
05:39And I would say that's the word to transition from a Shell and Explorer into a Shell scholar.
05:47As a teacher already, it's very tiring.
05:49But then, I always go back to my why.
05:53So, I would say to the teachers that back to our why is why we want to be a teacher.
05:59Because teaching in school is not just for the syllabus, not just for the textbook.
06:05But we need to teach them how to be prepared for the outside world.
06:12So, all this opportunity is very good for our students, not just for their academic,
06:18but also their well-being, like holistically.
06:22In the age of AI, your first step is to actually approach and use these artificial intelligence systems.
06:29So, firstly, I would suggest not to have the idea of learning a specific coding language
06:38or learning how to use Arduino circuits.
06:41It's to have a project in mind.
06:44It doesn't necessarily need to solve a problem.
06:46It could be a fun little side project that you want to build for your family or for your own
06:51inconvenience.
