00:25This is Tim Walsberg from Fast Track Uncerted TV.
00:28I'm here in New Orleans for the New Orleans Film Festival.
00:31There are people who've watched it as like, oh, that's like such a wild life.
00:36You live down there.
00:37And to us, it's just like, oh, right, it's not weird to us at all.
00:40That was like, that's what our life is kind of like.
00:43But to somebody not in it, obviously, it's, you know, and so you're striving, I guess,
00:47to capture the authenticity of it, but we're also kind of poking fun of it, satirizing
00:53it a bit.
00:54We kind of, that's the absurdity part.
00:56I mean, you're, and I think in this modern age, too, people tend to often, it's like
01:01self-reflect to a degree.
01:03I mean, social media kind of reinforces that idea, which is really a strain of the film
01:08that we kind of didn't end up focusing on as much as we did when we were in the writing
01:14process.
01:15We were having the character of Maya be a little more obsessed with the social media stuff,
01:20kind of creating a film almost on social media and also obsessing over the punk through social
01:27media and all that, which is there.
01:29I mean, she's on the phone a bunch, but it wasn't quite, it didn't end up for various
01:33reasons, I think, being like the major theme.
01:36I think there's other films have probably done that better.
01:38And also, you know, it's a little hard to, I guess, dramatize, you know, this world here.
01:47Finding the absurdity in yourself through the physical, intellectual, emotional, but showing
01:52that duality as a reflection of her.
01:55I mean, it's, it, it, when we were first conceptualizing what we wanted to make, we, it's funny, I'm
02:10just so not into talking into cameras and for any reason.
02:14No, just talk to me.
02:15This is just, yeah, it's, I mean, I don't even know, man.
02:19It's been such a trip because it is, it has been sort of like us reflecting on our lives,
02:24reflecting on ourselves as artists, reflecting on our community, reflecting ourselves as storytellers.
02:33This place?
02:35Yeah.
02:36You sure this guy isn't money?
02:38Of course, dude.
02:39Ian's like a punk legend, all right?
02:40Don't be judging no book by its cover.
02:42Come on.
02:47Hey!
02:49Come on.
02:50Open this.
02:51No, I'm doing this.
02:52Come on.
02:53I'm lost in the dark without you.
02:56No, I'm done.
02:59Foxy.
03:00Come on, babe.
03:01Come back inside.
03:03I'll make us tacos.
03:04No, I am so done with feeding you all my shit and you just, like, rejecting all my ideas.
03:08Yeah, only when they don't work.
03:10Oh, you are such an egomaniac, you know that?
03:12Literally nobody even gives a shit what some old white man has to say anyway.
03:16Yeah, that's why I have you in the band.
03:19What's up, man?
03:20F*** you.
03:21Come on.
03:23Roxy.
03:25Whatever, dude.
03:26She'll be back.
03:27What's up, man?
03:28I mean, it's funny because we were in Myanmar, we just landed, Maya and I, to go and start
03:37sort of coming up with some ideas where we thought this was going to be about this punk
03:42and we were like, man, you know, like, this isn't our story to tell, you know, we need to focus
03:49on ourselves
03:49and sort of, like, turn the camera on ourselves.
03:52And then it was really funny because then we were, like, in Myanmar, writing, you know, throwing ideas out about
03:58New Orleans, you know?
04:00While we were there.
04:01While we were there, you know?
04:02It was first, like, we need to get there to write this thing about there.
04:04And we're like, okay, we're actually over here going to write about this thing over here.
04:11And, yeah, I mean, like, thinking about ourselves, like, New Orleans is such a creative town.
04:16You know, people are always, you know, so just creatively charged, you know?
04:22Historically, it's a creatively charged city.
04:29And, yeah, it really just has allowed us to look at ourselves, you know, as artists, you know?
04:39And it's also, like, the community here, it's not like in New York where it's, like, artists with a capital
04:43A, you know?
04:44It's just, like, this academic sort of, like, driven work or Los Angeles or London.
04:51And, you know, it's, like, this is, it's very DIY.
04:55It's very, you know, like, I'm going to find some things.
04:58I'm going to make a thing and it's going to be beautiful, you know?
05:01I'm going to grab an instrument that's super old and just dust it off and make it work, you know?
05:06And I feel like that's sort of the approach that we took to our process.
05:16Sing with me.
05:28I can't hear your voice, baby.
05:29I want to hear it.
05:30I still don't feel like you're feeling it.
05:36I want to hear it from the left of your soul.
05:38Hold her.
05:39Lost in the dark.
05:42Come on, baby.
05:44Let's play it.
05:46All the way, let's do it.
05:51Lost in the dark.
05:56Yeah, I don't think this is going to work.
05:58Sorry.
06:00I'll just, I'll call her.
06:08It's cool.
06:09I got some of the leads.
06:10It's being a collaborative process, I mean, amongst us, but also amongst anybody we got
06:16to work on the film.
06:17I mean, everyone was donating their time.
06:19We were bare, bare, minimum, you know, budget.
06:24But because we have, you know, a lot of friends, luckily, who are willing to help and also have
06:29amazing houses or locations or a spaceship in the backyard and, you know, costumes, the
06:35whole bit, you know, we were able to pull all that off.
06:39I mean, I was thinking, interestingly, like, thematically in the film, these characters do
06:46have that spirit, a lot of them of, like, you start a conversation, let's talk about art,
06:52let's do that.
06:52Like, they're engaged and open and willing to go with you to a certain degree, but then
06:58they always try to try to make it about their own thing.
07:01And that's, we're trying to show this side, it's not always open arms and let's, you know,
07:05all peace and love and harmony.
07:08Their characters have their own egos, their own agendas, their own visions.
07:12And we experienced that ourselves in making this film together of trying to, like, craft
07:17it into our vision and that becoming, you know, difficult because everybody has a different
07:22vision, everybody has a different opinion.
07:24So that's the hard part about making a movie.
07:27And I think it's shown in the movie itself.
