00:00Look, I welcome Andy Burnham's entry into House Commons and his willingness, desire to challenge Keir Starmer.
00:08Keir Starmer stood down, so I welcome the idea of an Andy Burnham Prime Ministership because he's been a radical
00:15all the way through his life,
00:16but it's culminated in Manchester where intervention by the state to develop housing, intervention by the state to improve transport,
00:24intervention by the state to shape the local economy has proved very powerful.
00:28I think his practice as a mayor has been a living rebuttal of the notion that only neoliberal economics can
00:37make a change,
00:38that government is always inefficient and always makes mistakes.
00:44So I think government is back, you know, big government is back and big ideas are back.
00:48Andy brings an ideology, a soft left ideology, which is really what was behind a lot of the politics, the
00:54policies of the Starmer government.
00:56But I never thought Keir Starmer thought of himself soft left or was proud to do things like nationalise the
01:01railways.
01:02This is a Prime Minister, Andy Burnham, who, when he's Prime Minister, will be very happy to nationalise utilities in
01:09order to cut costs for ordinary families, households, but also for businesses.
01:14So, yeah, it's a great moment.
01:16And the cheering in the House of Commons was so heartfelt from the Labour MPs who feel they may have
01:22been rescued from a fate worse than death.
