00:00The Peace Hall Trust recently published its annual review, with a spokesperson saying a successful year of dynamic world-class
00:06culture, progressive trade, enriching community events, and countless opportunities to learn and develop has seen a significant turnaround in the
00:14venue's financial performance.
00:17Calderdale Council owns the historic Grade 1 listed 18th century Halifax landmark, but it's run by the Trust under a
00:23service level agreement.
00:25An 18-month accounting period up to September 2024 saw the Trust log losses of around £700,000, but the
00:33following 12 months saw a surplus of just under £357,000.
00:38There has been some controversy over £225,000 of support provided annually by the Council.
00:44Reform UK took control of the Council in May and claimed the sum was not budgeted for, but Labour said
00:50it was included in the budget.
00:51Chair of the Peace Hall Trust, Orphie Robinson, says the surplus is a substantial turnaround, reflecting the success of the
00:58steps taken to strengthen financial stability and improve performance.
01:02He said the stability gives the team room to breathe, to plan with confidence, and to dream bigger again.
01:08CEO of the Peace Hall Trust, Nikki Chance-Thompson, said intense hard work since the last results were posted has
01:15yielded results.
01:16She said the combination of world-class arts and music events, a thriving tenant community, and increasing opportunities for learning
01:22growth and participation helps bring a positive economic impact of around £90m to the region each year.
