00:00Unless these players want it to continue, we are not going to have an all-star game.
00:06The Midsommar's Classic, this is supposed to be an honor.
00:09The baseball game all-star game is supposed to be the best.
00:12Why?
00:12Because it's the easiest sport to play from an all-star game perspective.
00:17Okay?
00:18And when we made it worth something and we said, now it counts.
00:22And home field advantage was awarded to the winner of the all-star game.
00:27There was something to be said about the competitive nature of this game.
00:32It is an exhibition game.
00:34But now it's an exhibition game in which a player wants to be called an all-star.
00:40They don't want to play all-star games.
00:42They just want the money.
00:43They want the prestige.
00:45They want it on the back of the baseball card.
00:47Five-time all-star.
00:48Whatever it might be.
00:49Because the game is boring.
00:51The game has no juice.
00:53That's why I bet the under.
00:54You have 100-mile-per-hour pitchers coming out of the bullpen every single stop.
01:01You've got fireballers.
01:03And if you're playing an exhibition game, do you want to stand in there and take a 100-mile-per
01:09-hour pitch?
01:10Because Kamenero took one off his hands yesterday and everyone thought he broke his wrist.
01:14Like, do you really want that?
01:16Do you really want to have to deal with the fact that you're dealing with a pitch coming at you
01:23that can end your career in an exhibition game?
01:26Nobody wants to do that.
01:29So, if the pitchers are up there and they're going one speed, right?
01:34Aroldis Chapman comes in throwing 103 miles per hour.
01:37Ah, no thanks.
01:39Like, you're a hitter.
01:41You're not interested in facing that type of gas in an exhibition game.
01:47So, now you have to find a way to make the players care.
01:50So, do we go back and say the home field advantage will be determined at the All-Star game?
01:56Whoever wins the All-Star game?
01:58I don't know if that was well-received by the players.
02:02I liked it.
02:03I thought it was a cool twist.
02:04But it is a pretty significant, pretty big deal for the World Series to have home field advantage based upon
02:13players who will never be in the postseason.
02:15I mean, we stop and think about it.
02:17You're asking guys on losing baseball teams to play to award their American League or National League teammates home field
02:26advantage.
02:27If I'm playing on the Angels, what the hell do I care about home field for the American League?
02:33I'm going nowhere.
02:35My team's going nowhere.
02:36So, what's the point of that?
02:37For American League pride?
02:39Why?
02:40I'm going to award somebody in my own league an advantage to win a championship?
02:45That doesn't make any sense.
02:46So, that's part of the problem for the All-Star game, quote, mattering.
02:52This time it counts.
02:53So, I think you have to find other ways to make it significant.
02:58I think you have to go find other things to make it fun.
03:02And look, Addison, I know you might be kidding, but this isn't nuts.
03:07Maybe they'll follow the NFL and start playing wiffle ball next year.
03:10The NFL has done a skills competition now for their All-Star game.
03:15I don't think it would be horrible to do something like that.
03:20I don't think he's – I know he's kidding.
03:23But something along those lines that make it different.
03:28A fielding competition.
03:30A sprinting competition.
03:31I mean, I know guys can get hurt during doing those things, and that's always the worry because it's the
03:36middle of the year.
03:37The NFL is doing those things at the end of the season.
03:40So, if you tweak a hamstring or you hurt an ankle or something, you're not going to hurt your team
03:45the next week.
03:46If I'm running – if I'm doing a timed base deal from first to second and I tweak my hamstring
03:53and I'm out two weeks or a month,
03:55I could really hurt my team in the month of August going forward.
04:00So, I understand that there probably will be some pushback on certain types of activities.
04:06But if we're going to make it a clown show, make it a clown show.
04:09Just make it completely about having fun.
04:13Don't worry so much about making it perfect.
04:15And, you know, I know you're kidding with the wiffle ball, but, I mean, you could do some pretty fun
04:20things
04:21to have, like, an actual professional wiffle ball team take on an all-star team.
04:27See if Mike Trout can hit a guy throwing a ball 60 miles an hour out of a wiffle ball,
04:32right?
04:32With crazy up-and-down movement.
04:35Just to do something different.
04:37I don't know.
04:38You could do the old-school home-run derby type of thing where you could do some type of, like,
04:44you know,
04:44one-on-one matchups to see who advances.
04:48You could do some type of fielding competition or throwing competition.
04:52You could talk about, you know, throwing at different targets.
04:55Do things like the skills competition they do with the NHL.
04:59I'm not smart enough to come up with the ideas.
05:02I just know that right now the all-star game is boring as hell.
05:07And, blind boy Johnny, you're not wrong.
05:10If you handed over the all-star game to the Savannah Bananas, think about how much fun that would be
05:16if you had an all-star team up against one of the banana teams or an all-star team of
05:22the bananas.
05:23They've got four teams now.
05:24So create an all-star banana team and do it up against Major League Baseball
05:28and have some type of fun, entertainment, guys on stilts, guys with flaming bats,
05:34just something that makes it more entertaining and more interesting
05:37because the Bananas have figured out the entertainment side for a game that who wins.
05:43No kid walks out of that building caring about who wins between the Bananas or the Firemen.
05:50No one cares.
05:50No one cares.
