00:07I grew up in San Gabriel Valley,
00:09a little town called La Puente.
00:10So my upbringing, I would say is kind of different
00:12than the like traditional American.
00:14My dad immigrated here from Nigeria and my mom is American.
00:18So it was always like this constant tug
00:20of what it's like being African in America
00:23and what it's like being African, but not from Africa.
00:26Not being like American enough,
00:29but not really being African enough either.
00:31Like it was always like this weird dividing thing.
00:34And there's a lot of pressure for African American women
00:37to just kind of like be natural and be holistic
00:40or you hate yourself.
00:42That's kind of frustrating
00:43because I don't think it should be that black and white.
00:45I love wearing wigs.
00:46I love wearing extensions.
00:47I love wearing braids
00:48and I love wearing my natural hair too.
00:50One of the biggest things that I fight for,
00:52especially on my channel,
00:53is we're not one model of people.
00:55Like everybody looks different.
00:56And some of us like to celebrate ourselves artistically.
01:00Just because you do that
01:02and you indulge in different types of styles,
01:04it doesn't necessarily mean
01:05that you don't like the way you look naturally.
01:08It has nothing to do with hiding who you are.
01:10If anything, we're enhancing it
01:11and we're empowered in that.
01:12So that's really important to me.
01:14I want to be celebrated for being different.
01:17I don't want to be like everybody else.
